What you'll do
After meeting your guide in Place d'Armes, you'll collect your skip-the-line tickets, granting you access to the entire Domaine de Versailles—including the palace, gardens, Grand and Petit Trianon, and the Queen's Hamlet. With tickets in hand, you'll step inside the 17th-century palace, a masterpiece of French classical architecture and the former heart of France's royal power.
Inside, you'll be transported back in time as your guide regales you with fascinating stories of France's monarchs, from Francis I's reign to the final years of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Explore the richly decorated State Apartments, each themed around a Greek deity—and learn about the lives and daily routines of the kings and their courts. The highlight of your visit is the Hall of Mirrors, once the setting for royal ceremonies and lavish balls, with its glittering mirrors, gilded details, and sweeping views over the gardens, still impressing today. Here, your guide will share anecdotes about diplomatic receptions, festivities, and the historical events that unfolded within these walls.
Following the guided portion of your visit, you'll have time to wander through the pristinely manicured gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, whose geometric layouts, fountains, and grand perspectives defined French formal landscape design. Continue deeper into the estate at your own pace to check out the Grand Trianon, Louis XIV's elegant pink-marble retreat from court life; the Petit Trianon, commissioned by Louis XV for Madame de Pompadour; and finally, Marie-Antoinette's Hameau de la Reine (the Queen's Hamlet), a pastoral village where the queen sought respite from court life with her children.
