What you'll do

This full-day experience begins when you're picked up in a comfortable 4WD vehicle by your private guide, a passionate historian and storyteller with a degree in War Studies from Birmingham University. Local to the Normandy area for over 15 years, your guide is an expert in both the landscapes and the strategies surrounding Operation Overlord, and they'll help you create a custom itinerary for the day that suits your interests and energy levels—including a break for lunch (not included), where you can opt for a meal at a local restaurant or a homemade picnic.

You'll likely start at the American sector's main landing sites, where the first US infantry troops came ashore in the early hours of June 6, 1944. Trace the footsteps of the 1st and 19th Infantry Divisions as they fought the bloody battle for Omaha Beach, and hear how weather and terrain contributed to the more successful assault on Utah Beach. Ascend to Pointe Du Hoc, where you'll learn how "Rudder's Rangers" scaled the cliffs in an audacious effort to neutralize the German defenses, and explore the crucial role of the airborne divisions around Sainte-Mère-Église, the first French town to be liberated on D-Day.

Other highlights might include Brécourt Manor, where a small band of Easy Company paratroopers staged a daring attack on a pivotal German battery position, helping spare the lives of hundreds of soldiers on the beaches below. At each location, your guide will go beyond battle strategies and troop movements, telling the stories of individual soldiers and the actions they took in the heat of battle that helped shape some of the most critical hours of World War II. End with a visit to the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer—a powerful place to reflect on the sacrifices made during the liberation of Europe
