What you'll do

This half-day wine tasting experience begins with a convenient pickup from your accommodation or from Peso da Régua or Ermida train stations. Sit back and relax as you travel through rolling vineyards and terraced hillsides that trace the course of the Douro River—one of the most scenic routes in Portugal. Along the way, your local guide will share insights into the region's rich wine culture and the families who have cultivated these lands for generations.

Your first stop is Quinta Barqueiros D'Ouro, a traditional 150-year-old estate where time-honored winemaking methods are still used today. Here, you'll step inside the historic cellar to learn about the production of red, white, and rosé table wines, as well as the Douro's world-famous port. Feel the history in the stone walls and oak barrels as your guide walks you through the winemaking process—from harvest to bottle, before it's time to taste some of the estate's finest wines, appreciating the craftsmanship and terroir that define each pour.

Afterward, you'll carry on north to the Vinhos Verdes region, known for its acidic, young wines, where you'll visit your second winery of the day to sample four distinct Vinho Verde wines. As you sip, your guide will share insights on what makes these wines unique and how they complement the Douro Valley wines you've already sampled.

The fun concludes with a drive back through the countryside to your starting point—another opportunity to absorb the panoramic views of the Douro River and the sprawling vineyards that typify this UNESCO-protected area.

I'm a kimkim employee and joined this wine-tasting excursion for a work trip. Right from the start, my tour guide Vasco was super friendly and offered a wealth of knowledge on the importance of Douro Valley, the winemaking process, and his family's Quinta. Both of the wineries I visited are family-owned, which made the experience that much more unique and personalized. The tour included four port wine tastings at Quinta Barqueiros D'Ouro and four "green wine" tastings at Quinta de Santa Teresa, an organic winery situated in Vinho Verde, a region outside of Douro Valley. Not to mention, the views were incredible from both vineyards!

Quality of Experience
The wineries are family-owned, which makes this activity so special and "local."
Guides, Drivers and Staff
My guides were very knowledgeable and shared so much information about the Port winemaking process, the two Quintas, and Douro Valley in general.
