Waterfall Hike in Rincón de la Vieja National Park

Enjoy a scenic hike through the Rincón de la Vieja National Park along the famed Las Pailas trail.  Las Pailas, which means "the cauldrons" in Spanish, offers great vantage points of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano and opportunities for wildlife viewing.

You'll take the Las Pailas loop trail, which twists over 2.5 miles (3.5 km) through the tropical forest. Lookout points along the way feature some of the best views of the volcano and the park's wildlife. The national park is home to more than 300 bird species, plus other animals, like armadillos, collared peccaries, iguanas, white-nosed coatis, and various types of monkeys.

When you finish your hike, you'll surely be ready for a refreshing swim in the Oropendola Waterfall! A short walk from the park's entrance (along a trail that follows the Río Blanco) will lead you to this powerful and picturesque cascade. The Oropendola Waterfall plunges an impressive 82 feet (25 meters) down to a bright turquoise pool in the river canyon, a perfect place for a swim.
