What you'll do

Alongside your group, you'll meet your licensed guide in Piazza di Santa Maria delle Grazie in front of the historic church and convent of the same name, and begin your introduction to one of the most revered works in art history. Your guide will provide context on the church's significance, along with the details and story behind Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper (Cenacolo Vinciano in Italian), setting the stage for your visit. (If there's interest, we recommend visiting the church after your experience; entry is free.)

With skip-the-line tickets, you'll bypass the queues and proceed through a brief security check to enter the hermetically sealed refectory, now the Cenacolo Vinciano Museum, where the very large painting is housed (about 15 ft/4.6 m by 29 ft/8.8 m). You'll have a dedicated 15-minute window to stand before the masterpiece. As Leonardo da Vinci painted the mural "dry" on the wall rather than the traditional fresco technique, the strict timing (and climate-controlled room) is designed to preserve the fragile 500-year-old mural (which began to deteriorate not long after it was finished in 1498).

As you observe the Biblical scene, your guide will help you decode the details that make The Last Supper so extraordinary. Learn how da Vinci captured the exact moment of tension when Christ reveals a betrayal, and how each apostle's emotive reaction contributes to the narrative. From composition and technique to symbolism and historical context, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for the innovation behind his work. Your guide will remain available after the viewing to answer questions and expand on the mural's cultural and artistic significance, as well as its setting.
