What you'll do

Milos has a thriving food scene, where local production and long-standing traditions shape the island's gastronomy, and one you'll soon recognize with this belly-filling experience.

After meeting your guide and in no particular order, you'll likely begin the food-focused fun with a visit to a distinctive cave winery near Pollonia to sample regional varieties and learn about the island's winemaking practices. You'll have time to stroll through this seaside village—often considered the gastronomic hub of Milos—and enjoy your first bites of local delicacies, such as crispy tomato fritters and savory pitarakia (small, half-moon fried or baked pastries filled with cheese, onions, and herbs).

Continuing along the southern coast, you'll arrive at Paliochori, known for its volcanic landscape and unique cooking traditions. With weather and soil conditions cooperating, you'll have the opportunity to taste food prepared using the natural heat of the island's volcanic sand; just one of the special ways Milos' geology connects to its cuisine.

Next, you'll head inland to Plaka, the island's capital, where you'll sample koufeto, a bite-sized sweet treat often served at weddings and engagements, before your final stop takes you to Katifora on the outskirts of Adamas. Here, you'll head inside a neighborhood bakery that serves the island's signature watermelon pie alongside panoramic views over the harbor. After about four hours of traveling between villages and scenic viewpoints, you'll have sampled a wide range of regional specialties and gained a deeper appreciation for the island's culture—proof that one of the best ways to explore Milos (or any location) is through its food.
