What you'll do
This four-hour excursion begins when you meet your expert local guide and the rest of your small group, and set off into Valencia's atmospheric Ciutat Vella (Old Town). Weave through the city's patchwork of architectural styles and pass UNESCO-listed treasures, pausing at landmarks like the Plaza de la Virgen. Considered the city's beating heart, this beautiful pedestrian square is home to the Gothic Valencia Cathedral (built atop the remains of an ancient Roman temple) and the Baroque Virgen de los Desamparados Basilica (home to a shrine to the city's patron saint).
Look up to spot the gargoyles as you pass La Lonja de la Seda, the city's 500-year silk exchange, and continue west to the Mercado Central, built in a soaring Modernista style with vaulted glass ceilings and intricate ironwork. Wander through the over 250 fruit and vegetable stalls, and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of Europe's largest produce market as your guide points out local ingredients and explains the importance of the market to the city's residents.
After about 1.5 hours of strolling, you'll end at one of Valencia's most emblematic locales—a portion of the 11th-century Moorish walls that once encircled the city. Here, you'll gain exclusive access to an intimate dining venue, where you'll sit down to a 10-course tasting menu designed to showcase the finest local products and award-winning regional wines. Start with a glass of red on the scenic terrace, then savor flavorful bites of tapas and a traditional seafood paella surrounded by city views and ancient stone walls.
