What you'll do

After an early wakeup call and breakfast at your hotel, you'll transfer by car to the put-in spot near the village of San Miguel on the Río Sarapiquí. Attend a safety briefing from your professional guides, then get outfitted with a helmet and safety vest before embarking on a 14-mile (22-km) rafting journey along more than 40 Class III and IV rapids.

Push off into the current and take a moment to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding jungle and its vibrant birdlife—soon, challenging rapids like "The Terminator" and "Dos Locos" will demand your full attention. Halfway through the trip, you'll pull off the river and take a break on the shore. You'll have 10-15 minutes to relax and enjoy a snack of some fresh fruit. This is also a great time to go for a quick swim!

Get back on the river and keep smiling: one of the guides will be snapping action photos throughout the day. After the second part of the rafting journey, you'll dry off and enjoy a feast of traditional Costa Rican food for lunch, then say your goodbyes and transfer back to La Fortuna for a well-earned rest.

Great adventure! We went at the end of the rainy season and the water was high! We've been on several white water rafting trips and this one was the most thrilling! Our guide, Carl, was super professional and calm. He gave great instructions and literally navigated us through rough waters. My only negative was that it was a gigantic group with numerous rafts going at the same time. But, when one raft flipped over, I appreciated how the other guides stopped and helped.

Tips for future travelers

Don't worry about taking pictures with your phone. Just buy the photo package. It's pretty good and worth the money.
