Jane Davey

Born and raised in the UK, I’ve always had a love affair with the great outdoors. It’s no wonder I ended up in travel!

Growing up, family holidays meant exploring the UK with my parents and brother, often on a mission to track down my dad’s lost racing pigeons (yes, really!). Those little adventures sparked my curiosity for the country's remote corners, and that wanderlust has never left me.

These days, my heart is torn between the rugged beauty of the Peak District, the dramatic landscapes of Scotland, and the breathtaking mountains of Wales – where I’ve ticked off all the Welsh 3000-footers. In winter, I call the French Alps home, chasing the powder on the Paradiski slopes. The rest of the year, I split my time between my homes in France and the UK, with a special love for the Vanoise National Park, where I spend the summers exploring on an electric mountain bike.

When I’m not skiing down the Alps, you’ll find me hiking through the Peak District or pedaling through the Vanoise, always on the hunt for my next adventure.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"With an in-depth knowledge of the UK, I specialize in not only single destination but multi-destination, including England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
My favourite TV program is ‘All Creatures Great & Small’, filmed in and around Yorkshire.
As I have been traveling to France for many years, I have a passion for researching the 2nd World War, ski locations, and summer activities. My love of the French mountains and culture was the main reason that I moved there in 2021, but still visit the UK often.
"

How did you get involved in travel?

"My Grandad was a coach driver and he traveled all over the World. On returning from his ‘trips’, he would always buy me a doll, in native costume, from the countries he had visited. I was in awe of his knowledge of how to find locations without a map. His passion and experiences inspired me to become a travel agent, as I love to find new places to explore."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"I once traveled on a guided group tour on a Greek Caique Cruise boat, where we went island hopping. It was a rustic experience, and I met many people that had traveled. We slept above deck and looked at the stars whilst chatting about our travel experiences, swam in the sea and I saw a Manta Ray and giant starfish. We visited several destinations that were off the beaten track, met local people, and supported their economy directly, and I just took it all in."

Jane's suggestions and guidance, and Celina's excellence in coordinating the hotels and activities was amazing! If there was some kind of special award in the travel field, they should be the winners hands down!

Thanks so much KimKim for being at the right place at the right time when we were searching for experts to help us on our complicated journey of our group 49 martial artists travelling so far from Colorado!

When we plan our next trip, there is no question of where we will start!

Dear Heather,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed review. It was a pleasure helping you plan your journey through England, and I'm delighted to hear that you had such an enjoyable trip and felt confident navigating the country without a car.

I'm especially pleased that you enjoyed so many of your experiences, from the Globe Theatre and the Roman Baths to your walking tour in Stratford-upon-Avon. It's also wonderful to hear such positive feedback about the staff at several of the hotels, particularly at Edgar Townhouse.

That said, I'm very sorry about the issue you experienced with your hotel reservation on your final night. I completely understand how frustrating it must have been to arrive at your accommodation and have to make alternative arrangements. While our team was working with the hotel to resolve the booking, I also appreciate why you chose to secure a room so you could settle in for the evening. That is certainly not the experience we want any of our travellers to have.

I'm pleased to let you know that your reimbursement of £127 GBP has now been processed, and I hope this helps bring the matter to a satisfactory close.

I also appreciate your feedback regarding the Oxford tour. Comments like yours are incredibly valuable, and we'll review how we present this experience so future travellers have a clearer understanding of what is included and the importance of booking certain college and library visits in advance if they're on their must-see list.

Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback. It helps us continue to improve the experiences we create for our travellers. I hope you returned home with many wonderful memories of England, and I would be delighted to help you plan another adventure in the future.

When it comes to the choice of hotels that you booked us into, we were a bit disappointed. When we first saw the hotels that you proposed for us, we were remarked to each other that these were top-of-the-line hotels, expecting four star quality. In actuality, two of the hotels did not really meet our expectations. one was old and in run down condition, and the other was located far from anything in the center of the city and therefore requiring a long, and expensive cab rides.

Dear Linda

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback regarding your recent trip to Ireland. We genuinely appreciate hearing about both the highlights and the areas where your experience did not fully meet your expectations.

I was particularly pleased to read your comments about the drivers and guides throughout your journey. Martin, in particular, will be delighted to hear that his knowledge, enthusiasm, and generosity of spirit helped make your genealogy day in Roscommon such a memorable experience. We are also pleased that the various transfer drivers and your Galway guide contributed positively to your trip.

I am sorry to learn that some of the hotel accommodations did not meet your expectations. During our pre-arrival discussions and our conversations while you were travelling, no concerns were raised regarding the hotels, so I appreciate you sharing these observations now. When selecting accommodations, we aim to balance quality, location, availability, and value, while also matching the overall style and budget of the trip. Both The Gibson Hotel in Dublin and No.1 Pery Square in Limerick are well-regarded properties that are frequently chosen by travellers seeking comfortable accommodations with good access to local attractions, although I understand that their locations did not align with your personal preferences.

Regarding the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, I am disappointed to hear about the maintenance issue you encountered with the bathroom faucet and the condition of the room. This is not the standard we expect from our accommodation partners, and I will certainly pass your comments on to the hotel management for their review.

With respect to the Limerick Greenway cycling day, transportation to and from the cycle hire location was not included within the booked activity. As discussed both prior to your arrival and during your trip, we provided guidance on arranging local taxi transportation to reach the cycle hire centre. However, I understand your perspective that having this arranged as part of the overall experience would have been more convenient.

Thank you also for highlighting the delayed delivery of the ancestry report and the confusion surrounding the Galway bike tour meeting point. These are valuable observations that we will share with our local partners to help improve the experience for future travellers.

While I am sorry that certain elements of the trip fell short of your expectations, I am pleased that many aspects of your journey—including your genealogy experience, local guides, drivers, and the warm hospitality you encountered—were memorable and enjoyable.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. We value your comments and will use them constructively as we continue to refine the experiences we create for our clients.

Kind regards,

Jane Davey

Dear Karin,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. It was a pleasure helping you plan your Scottish adventure, and I'm delighted to hear that you left feeling you had gained a good sense of Scotland, its landscapes, and its people.

It sounds as though you experienced some of the very best of the country, from the dramatic scenery of the Isle of Skye to the history of Edinburgh. I'm especially pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your tour with Duncan. He is a wonderful guide, and I will be sure to pass along your kind comments. His ability to weave together Scotland's history, culture, music, and landscapes while allowing time to simply appreciate the scenery is something many travelers value.

I also loved reading about your visit to Holyrood Palace, your hike up Arthur's Seat, and your enjoyment of the Johnnie Walker Experience. It's always rewarding to hear when travelers discover unexpected highlights along the way.

Thank you as well for your honest feedback regarding Angel's Share Hotel. I am sorry to hear that the room temperature affected your comfort during your stay. While air conditioning is still relatively uncommon in many historic Scottish city-centre hotels, Angel's Share does advertise Dyson hot and cold fans in its rooms to help guests regulate the temperature. I appreciate that, during a spell of warmer weather, this may not have provided the level of cooling you were hoping for. I also appreciate your comments regarding breakfast service and check-in, and I will share this feedback with the hotel so they can continue to improve their guest experience.

Thank you again for trusting me and Kimkim with another trip. It was a pleasure working with you, and I hope Scotland has left you with many wonderful memories. When you're ready for your next adventure, whether that's returning to Scotland or exploring another corner of the UK and Ireland, I'd be delighted to help.

Warm regards,

Jane

Jane and Gabrella pieced together an impressive itenerary. Rather than visiting normal sites, we threw them a curve requesting to leave the beaten path so we could stay in castles and see lands our ancestors once owned. But of course, we also wanted to see all the major sites. They pulled it off with remarkable brilliance. The accommodations were tailored to mesh with our historical agenda and the hosts were amazing, yet the locations were conveniently close to venues and tour meeting points. They selected such great tour companies, we quickly learned to expect above average guides. Of some 20 plus guides and drivers we only had two I would classify as adequate, the rest were exceptional.

Highlights were so numerous it's difficult not to mention them all. Definitely staying the the Tullock Castle which had been in the family from the 1500s to the 1700s was near the top, finding ancestral inscriptions in the Tower of London is something we will never forget, and expecting to see the changing of the guards but being treated instead to many 100s of soldiers, guards, musicians, and mounted horsemen all in uniform rehearsing for the King's birthday was particularly momentous. Those were all great experiences but as for actual sites, Clava Cairns, Culloden, everything in York, Stirling Castle, and the American Cemetery at Normandy were probably at the top of the list.

Hotel Review
Tulloch Castle Hotel ‘A Bespoke Hotel’
Dingwall

While not huge like King's castles, or as grand as Duke and Earl's castles it was genuine and authentic, more like a baron's castle. The hosts were welcoming and the chef was remarkable. We were treated to the best meal we had on the entire trip there. Besides the restaurant, there is a separate bar which has a different menu. Our room had a four poster bed and a large, very modern private bathroom. I would caution you to read the room descriptions carefully as you can stay in everything from servants quarters, which are very small, to a grand two bedroom suite. This is one hotel where you will get what you pay for. There is a small family museum on premises which remains locked, but you can get a key if you are interested. I highly recommend the Tullock Castle and would definitely return if I'm ever near Dingwall again.

Authenticity & Character
Retention of as much of the historic nature as possible, while adding modern amenities
Location
It had great views, but it is out of town a way so it's better if you have transportation if you plan to stay several days and see other sites.
Staff
They were extremely welcoming. They were also very responsive and extremely polite. There was a couple who booked servants quarters, but were expecting a four poster bed room and demanded to be upgraded. Tullock is in high demand and was already sold out for the season. Yet despite them raising their voices and demanding a different room, they simply became even more polite and gently explained they couldn't kick someone out of their room and they didn't have an upgrade to offer.
Cleanliness & Comfort
The bathroom was large, bright, clean and had a great view!

Most certainly opulent!! Line skipping was nice, guide was knowledgeable but excessively wordy. It was very, very hot and very very crowded so we were stuck listening to someone drone on forever we oft could not even see. The tour itself was great, but our guide not so much so. We were supposed to have 4 hours there, but 2.75 of that was listening to the guide get off track and tell personal stories, leaving us only 1.25 hours to explore the rest of the palace, find some place to eat, visit the gardens, the grand and petit trianon and Marie-Antoinette's hameau. We did get fed, saw some of the gardens but missed the rest which I was really wanting to see.

It's a long day from Paris, especially with the number of traffic issues we experienced. The beaches, bunkers and memorials we were allowed to see were great, but we were hurried along and told not to read the signs; they were supposed to provide links instead, but never did. The cemetery was sobering but pristine. The lunch stop was good and since lunch was included in our tour it was a treat.

Tower of London, Changing of the Guard, River Cruise, St. Paul's Cathedral & Optional London Eye
London

The Tower of London tour turned out to be a highly unexpected experience complete with a stunning discovery. Our entire trip was historical in nature as we were tracing some of Mark's family history roots. Edward Seymour (brother to Jane and Lord Protectorate for Edward VI who was Henry VIII and Jane's son) and John Dudley who served as the de facto regent and ruler of England after he orchestrated the downfall of Edward Seymour were both beheaded during those turbulent times. Edward and John were Mark's 12th and 13th great grandfathers from different lines of his family. In the Tower of London prison, the largest and most elaborate etching on the wall carved in by various prisoners, belonged to John Dudley! It was one of the top two highlights of the entire trip! As if that wasn't enough, our version of the Changing of the Guard was extreme. Instead of a few, we got to see 100s of uniformed guards, military members, musicians and horsemen rehearsing for the King's Birthday. We had a front row seat for their practice parade at its inception so we could see the pre-staging as well. That was unexpectedly precious. St. Pauls was a nice surprise due to its ornate interior, the American Memorial Chapel and knowledgeable guide. Then end this tour, the river cruise included seeing the raising of the Tower Bridge so a sail ship could pass through. Remarkable day.

HUGE museum and was initially surprised it was arranged by country. However, considering at its peak, the British Empire ruled over 23% to 24% of world lands it's understandable. It houses an impressive display of artifacts from all over the world (over 100 countries). You would need two or three weeks to see it all. I will admit I came away feeling, "wow, those should be returned to the Iroquois," and "I wonder why Greece and Iraq haven't asked for their artifacts back?"

Westminster Abbey serve as the coronation site for British Royals. It is a soaring, magnificent, gothic church which cannot be experienced by simply looking at pictures. It also serves as the resting place for over 3000 notables, including kings and queens. It is a must do at least once in your lifetime.

What stands out is its significant historical status. It is way more immersive and engaging than other castles. It has seen extensive restoration and is rich in royal history sitting at the heart of Scottish history. It not only served as a primary residence for the Stewart/Stuart dynasty, it was also a critical military stronghold.

The Stonehenge and Bath Day Tour was impressive. I was warned Stonehenge was a free for all, but those folks had visited many years ago. Today it is well managed, traffic and parking is not an issue and the Visitor's Center is a gem. If you go, make SURE you see the 360 degree short film on Stonehenge before you go out to the site. The new displays, showing huts which would have been similar to what the workers would have stayed in enhanced the experience. Bath itself and the Roman Baths are intriguing. I especially enjoyed going underground and seeing the old Roman structures. The little interpretive stops were great in explaining how the old plumbing worked. It is another definite must do.

Such an interesting place, very crowded but still worth the time to enjoy. To fully appreciate it, you need to take the time to see it all, the military fortress and batteries, the tradesmen quarters, royal palace and crown jewels, the tribute to Scottish warriors, St. Margaret's Chapel, prisons, museums etc.

Interesting to be in the Isle of Skye and see Eileen Donan Castle. It was a day full of history and sites. Getting to drive through valleys where actual battles took place made it easy to see how they would have developed. The Donan Castle is different in that the exterior was re-created to be as close to the original as possible complete with dropping streaks. The interior is modern and a destination house for a family. The stop in Portree and getting to see several Highland "Coos" was a special treat.

Two of our top five activities were included in this day trip, Clava Cairns and Culloden. The sheer intrigue and age of Clava Cairns left a permanent impression. The visitor's center at Culloden was well done from both perspectives. The dramatic change to Scotland's future path was handled well. Walking the battlefield and finding various clans brought the battle to life. We were also finally able to make a connection as to why Tullock Castle was "lost" to our family in 1746.

We had an amazing tour with Aodan from The Killarney Touring Company. His enthusiasm, his knowledge about everything Ireland was amazing as was his flexibility and desire to show us a good time. We also traveled in style in a beautiful, brand new van.

Dear Ray and Family,

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful review—it truly means a lot.

It was such a pleasure working with you again, and we're absolutely delighted to hear that this Ireland trip was just as special as your time in Scotland. Knowing that the whole family—including your daughters and son-in-law—had such an incredible experience is exactly what we hope for when putting these journeys together.

We loved reading your highlights, especially your time with Aodan—he really is fantastic, and we're so glad he helped make the Dingle and Slea Head tour such a standout day. It sounds like you were treated to Ireland at its very best (and with good weather too, which is always a bonus!).

Thank you as well for your trust and loyalty—it genuinely means the world to myself and the team that you return to plan your travels with us. Building these experiences for you and your family is something we truly enjoy, and we're so grateful to be a part of your travel memories.

Whenever you’re ready to start thinking about the next adventure, the team and I would be absolutely delighted to help bring it to life.

Warmest wishes to you all,
Jane & Elisa (File Production Manager)
