High Point Holidays and Randonnees Outre-Manche

Since taking our first booking in 2007, High Point Holidays has grown from small beginnings in the Beaujolais region of France to cover active holidays across the UK France, and elsewhere in Europe.

We specialise in active holidays including hiking and cycling trips, mainly self-guided, where travellers immerse themselves in the local way of life, through our careful choice of accommodation, location, and routes.

We are a truly independent tour operator; not part of a large company. The majority of our holidays are set up or created by us based on our principles, so we have full control of all aspects of the trip from the choice of the guest house and transfers to the smaller key details.

The philosophy of the company has been clear from the beginning; to provide good quality, active holidays with a commitment to personal and flexible service. We create unique walking holidays with authentic local experiences.

We are here to help you every step of the way. You can contact us always, before, during and after your holiday, to ensure your satisfaction.

PLEASE NOTE: all of experiences and activities are subject to availability at the time of booking.

One of the restaurants recommended in our guide for Belfast - Mourne Seafood Bar was AMAZING! The seafood was so fresh, the staff was kind and accommodating, and the atmosphere was great. Adrian was very helpful and open to feedback, and made sure to incorporate our must see's!

This hotel is currently in the process of being renovated and transitioning to a Doubletree, but honestly, the space was great, the staff was wonderful, and the breakfast had the best scrambled eggs! Kids loved having a pool. Parking was super easy and close to everything we wanted to walk to (Derry girls mural and the walls).

Absolute favorite day of our trip. The weather was in our favor and we had sun for both the Carrick a Rede rope bridge and Giant's Causeway. We stopped for lunch in Bushmills (when it was raining) at the cutest cafe, and a brief trip to the distillery. After Giant's Causeway, we continued to drive along the coast, which was breathtaking. The Northern Ireland coast may be one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Thank you so much, Lisa!
I’m absolutely delighted to hear you had such a fantastic trip, it sounds like you made the most of every stop, especially along the Antrim Coast (hard to beat that on a clear day!). I’m especially glad everything ran smoothly for you with the planning and bookings, that’s EXACTLY what we're here for!

And great shout on Mourne Seafood Bar…one of my personal favourites too! 😊

It was a real pleasure working with you and your family, and I hope Ireland has firmly earned a spot for a return visit sometime soon.

What . . . is your quest?

To seek a memorable and joyous travel adventure? With your teenager in tow no less? Impossible you say. Pish posh! I just returned from a spring break trip to England with my teenage daughter, and we are still positively beaming. In fact, we spent two hours this past weekend warmly recounting our adventures from each day of the trip over a shared pot of tea, a new family tradition.

The crucial first step in our successful quest was reaching out to kimkim to help us plan the trip. The website paired me with one of their kind and knowledgable experts on England vacations (hat tip to Liam!). I messaged Liam a list of sites and priorities which my daughter and I put together, with interests ranging from King Arthur to Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and even Jack the Ripper. Within a handful of messages Liam had worked out a custom itinerary for us, ticking all the boxes for the sites we wanted to see, including free time for our own exploring, and easy-to-get-to hotels. The kimkim team booked the reservations for us, and compiled everything into a roadbook, also available on the kimkim app (thumbs up for the app!).

The second step for our successful quest was also the kimkim team. On the day we arrived, our flight was delayed and London traffic was snarled. We could not make it to our first high-priority reservation: Westminster Abbey. The kimkim team was there to help. A quick message on the app and a follow-up phone call allowed us to continue on with our schedule to the Tower of London, then a night-time ghost tour and boat ride on the Thames. The kimkim team were pleasant and responsive, gaining us admission to the Abbey the next morning at no additional cost in either money or, more importantly, stress.

We very much liked "seeing the sights" in the small group tours. The guides were all knowledgable and friendly, with good senses of humor. With small group tours we were also able to navigate around the big crowds and avoid the big busses on day-trips to Stonehenge and the Cotswolds, as well as to the White Cliffs of Dover and Canterbury.

We particularly enjoyed three individual tours. Robert Jones, an experienced photographer, led us on an afternoon photography tour of central London and the Thames. Robert helped us "see" the city through a local's eyes, but also to look for moments and views reflected in the glass of the many modern buildings. We have a stack of amazing photos from this tour. Ruth Sillers, a stage and voice actress, took us on a lovely afternoon walk through the many Jane Austen sites in Bath, including where Jane lived and the locations depicted in her two novels set in Bath. Daniel Hancock, a worldly traveler himself with many fascinating stories, led us on an afternoon trip through the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey and on a hike to the top of the Glastonbury Tor. We had a brilliant, clear day, and could see all the way to Bristol and the sea.

The third step for our successful quest was the blocks of free time to explore on our own. I especially enjoyed watching my daughter learn to "Mind the Gap" and navigate the Tube system, and riding together across London on the double-decker busses. We spent a half-day each at the British Museum and the National Gallery. In Bath, we savored walks through the town, dining on the bridge, and especially a morning tour of the house museum at No. 1 Royal Crescent, fully restored to the Georgian time period.

The final high point of our adventure was tea, especially High Tea the Savoy Hotel. I have never before seen my daughter hold a smile for two straight hours: three servings of tea, two servings of finger sandwiches, followed by scones, and dessert. We were later introduced to Cream Tea (tea with scones, clotted cream, and jam, and a regional disagreement on the order for applying clotted cream and jam to the scone, as we found out from one of our small group guides). Contentious opinions over tea? That's news to my American ears. Heh-heh-heh. Despite my weakness for bad jokes (very British!), whenever we've shared tea since our return, the same wondrous smile returns to my daughter as we fondly remember our adventures in England.

To the team at kimkim, thank you for helping us plan such an enjoyable quest. Till next time!

Of the walking tours booked, I much preferred the guide and style of the one in Dublin. It felt more personalized as he reached out to each individual/traveler group to understand their interests and provide appropriate recommendations. The Cliffs of Moher tour was stunning, but only because we got very lucky with the weather. Unfortunately, we only got just under an hour at the Cliffs, which was not enough time.

Lodging was always in a safe and easily accessible location.

I hope to visit Ireland again and work with Adrian again!

The note about the Dublin walking tour is great to hear, that more personal, tailored approach is exactly what I try to prioritise, so I’ll definitely keep leaning into that style of guide. And on the Cliffs of Moher, you’re absolutely right, the views can be incredible (and I’m glad you got lucky with the weather!), the time there can sometimes feel a bit tight on group tours, so that’s something I’ll be more mindful of going forward.

It was an absolute pleasure planning this with you, and I’d love to help you explore even more of Ireland next time, there’s plenty left to discover!

Such friendly staff and nice accommodations! The location is fantastic- steps away from the Tower of London, close to the tube, and so many great pubs! Our room was very nice- we appreciated having two bathrooms, and the sleeping accommodations were great. It was so nice to have a kitchen and laundry as well! We did wish for a way to prop the doors open- at times, we felt very closed off from each other, so we used shoes and towels to prop open the doors within our suite.

There was however, the issue that the information always referred to 6 persons, so it was unclear even after opening the link that indeed there were 7 of us taking for example, the group walking tour in Nürnberg. There was also a delay in your responses before and during the trip.

I only joined the group from Munich to Nürnberg. Normally, I would have never paid 1000,00 Euro + for a weekend in Nürnberg - since the price only included train from Munich to Nürnberg (price is about 30 Euro), the hotel which included breakfast for 2 nights and a short walking tour. I went thru your platform so that I could be with the group, but the price performance was poor.

The group was disappointed that there was no transfer service from the Nürnberg train station to the hotel. It was not a long distance, but with luggage, and walking thru cobble streets and a crowd one day after the majority landed from the USA was to tiring for them.

Your proposal for the 1 Michelin star restaurant was not appropriate. Apparently the group was not familiar with Michelin restaurants. We ended up eating at a restaurant very close to the hotel where we made the reservation, and we were all very happy with the service, and the food.

Hope my constructive criticism is helpful.

Wishing you all a Happy Holidays,
Susan

I have been a huge cheerleader for KimKim, having taken a trip to Slovenia which was stellar in every way. So I did not hesitate to come back to KimKim again for a special birthday week in Scotland. Unfortunately, it was a trip that I could have planned on my own fairly easily for far less cost. I am at a loss to understand the value of KimKim for this trip. All in all, it was an uninspired, off-the-shelf undertaking with our specialist Stephen who I wasn’t convinced knew the area well when all was said and done. Never felt the enthusiasm I had in the past, but more of a bit of phoning it in and taking dictation. And through the process I did some push back (should have done more) but it never seemed to result in upping his game.

What I had loved about my past experience with KimKim was the surprise and delight of things to do or see that I would not have found or thought of myself. None of that was the case on this trip.

The itinerary for Glasgow turned out to be ho-hum at best. Lots of go to museum self-guided recos. The private walking tour that was booked was quite lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed it. BUT this came as a result of MY request for it, not the specialist’s recommendation (and a supplemental charge was added to do so). Ultimately, we were looking for some inspiration on things to do in Glasgow besides wandering around museums. I had requested a private Whiskey tasting several times which he said he was working on but never got back to me. Not one suggestion for something inspired.

Unlike our Slovenia trip, transfers to the stations, hotels etc. beyond airport drop off and pick up were not included and left to us to navigate via Uber and local taxis which were not included in the price.

Oban and the Highlands: I requested a castle and got a long in the tooth Isle of Eriska manor house that needs a whole lot of upgrades. And not being familiar with the logistics, it was a 38 pound taxi ride of at least a half hour to get into the town. And Oban area was the only recommendation that was offered. The 3 Isle tour day was fine. But again, I could have booked this on my own directly. It was full of tour groups on a crowded boat and on a coach. The islands, however, were lovely and once on them it was very nice. Our last day was the best day. Our private guide Campbell Cameron was sensational and the highlight of our trip. Kudos to Tartan Tours. THIS was the kind of experience I was hoping for the entire trip.

And the insult to injury is that when I voiced my complaint to KimKim requesting multiple times why this trip that cost me $11K actually would have cost approximately $6700 if I planned it myself, they never had an answer (and because it was so off the shelf it was easy to break out the costs). That is one big mark up for service. Other than just making reservations for things that I could have easily found myself, the value of KimKim for this trip is still a mystery to me. And to add insult to injury their recompense was to refund me a mere $500! Insulting at best to a good customer who has recommended KimKim multiple times to many others. Not only will I never use KimKim again, I will be sure to let all my travel friends know not to use them again and advise others to look elsewhere for a bespoke trip.

Lovely guide who was very knowledgable and lovely. I had to request this be added to the itinerary as our "specialist" never offered anything of the kind. Oh yeah, and of course this was supplemental. While on the walking tour our guide took us by the council building where she told us there are tours of the interior, but only on weekdays. Our tour being on Saturday, we could not do it. This is something we would never have known about independently and could perhaps have been something for our specialist Stephen to suggest for our Friday itinerary.

Dear Denise,
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts so candidly. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we will certainly learn from it. We are a team with different skill sets and work with a wide range of travelers, so hearing your perspective helps us improve how we deliver experiences.
I am truly sorry that you have expressed the trip in this way and that we did not manage to achieve the expectations you had hoped for. While we fulfilled everything outlined in the agreed trip plan - confirmed during several video calls and across the four customized versions I created - I understand that meeting contractual obligations is not the same as creating the sense of surprise and delight you were looking for.
Your comments highlight areas where we can do better, particularly in offering more proactive suggestions and personalization. We take this seriously and will use your feedback to refine our approach for future travelers.
Thank you again for sharing your experience with such clarity. It helps us grow, and I regret that this trip did not reflect the high standard we aim for, and that our company as a whole is known for, as shown in the rest our feedback which rests above 4.8/5.
Warm regards,
