What a lovely spot in Sacred Valley. Enjoyed walking the grounds, stopping for coffee, enjoying drinks at the bar to take to the courtyard and walking up the street to the local brewery. A beautiful setting in the mountains.

We enjoyed visiting Arequipa, Colca Canyon (which included a homestay with a lovely couple), Cusco, Ollantaytambo, Rainbow Mountain, Machu Picchu and Lima. In each location, we enjoyed tours - some private and some in small groups. Our tour guides, especially William in Cusco, Jaqueline in Machu Picchu and Julie in Ollantaytambo were fantastic and went above and beyond by sharing additional information about Peru, it's culture and people. We learned so much from each one. Our biggest highlights were Machu Picchu - seeing 3 different circuits as well as the Inca Bridge and Huayna Picchu Mountain hike - and Rainbow Mountain. We'd highly recommend working with Kimkim, Andean Travel Experience as they did an awesome job!

Intercontinental Real Lima Miraflores by IHG
Lima

Brand new hotel. Extremely polite and helpful staff. We stayed here at the beginning and end of our Peru trip, so we left behind some purchases made during the first stay - the hotel was kind enough to hold it for our return. Very good breakfast, well furnished and comfortable room. Location is just a few minutes from the Larcomar Mall. We did not take advantage of the hotel facilities other than the Japanese restaurant, that was very good as well.

Authenticity & Character
High class international style hotel.
Location

Staff
Very helpful, polite.

Posada Amazonas Lodge
Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios

Running a large lodge in a location reachable only by boat is not easy. These guys are doing an excellent job. The lodge now has good internet (Starlink) and 24/7 power unlike what it says in earlier reviews. Meals were quite good given the remoteness of the location. Excellent excursions catering to a wide variety of interests - we took part in 3. I was uneasy about living in a room with one side completely open but that was not a problem.

Beautiful location, nice rooms with an excellent view of the hills. My only regret is that we arrived in the evening and left early morning without being able to explore the grounds, these were full of birds. Dining room gave us a surprisingly good dinner. Breakfast was the usual variety.

This hotel is just a pit stop on the way to or from Machu Pichu. I found the front desk quite rude and unhelpful - they assigned us a dinner slot of 9 PM and refused to change it when we said we had an early start at 6 AM the next day. Fortunately the restaurant crew were much more helpful and found us seating at 7.30 PM when I talked directly to the restaurant manager. Room was barebones and tiny. I've see cruise ship bathrooms that are larger. We had one towel and one bottle of water despite the room being booked for double occupancy - had to call the front desk to get these fixed. The restaurant staff were very nice. The coffee shop/bar was also fine - we waited there on our way out for a while and the staff was attentive. Front desk staff were perhaps the only rude people I met in Peru in two weeks.

Authenticity & Character
Fairly worn out rooms

Cleanliness & Comfort
Clean but very basic.
Aranwa Cusco Boutique Hotel
Cusco

Absolutely beautiful hotel that was previously a museum. Our room was booked with two twin beds - and the staff went out of their way to upgrade us to a suite instead. We had one dinner and three breakfasts here - all meals were good. Friendly helpful and polite staff. Everything was very clean. Excellent bathroom.

Authenticity & Character
It was like living in a historic building - which it was
Location
Just a short walk from Cusco's main attractions. Plenty of dining options within 10 minutes
Staff
Staff went above and beyond in taking care of us
Cleanliness & Comfort
Very clean and comfortable.
GHL Hotel Lago Titicaca Puno
Lago Titicaca, Puno

The hotel is old, and shows in it's dated layout and low ceiling rooms. It's well maintained however and we had a comfortable stay. The dining room can get crowded with large tour groups so book your dinner seating in advance. The location is a bit remote, and Puno doesn't have any good restaurants in any case so visitors end up having all their meals in the hotel.

Authenticity & Character
Fairly generic '80s beachside hotel' vibe
Location
Excellent views of the lake, nice walking trail starts from the hotel and heads into a protected area.
Staff
Efficient, helpful.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Our two room suite was spacious but the sofa and table/chair combo wasn't the most comfortable.

Guides Daniel in the Amazon, Nataly in Cusco and Javier in Machu Picchu were all exceptional. Highlights for me were the stay in the Amazon, with the wildlife sightings and cultural experiences, and our day in Machu Picchu, being in the citidel and then hiking to the top of Waynapicchu. Unforgettable. I also loved the Urban Cooking Experience with chef Patrick in Lima - wonderful!

I appreciated that this tour was a combination, walking tour and driving tour. There’s a lot to see that can’t be covered by just foot. But there are several locations within the town that are more easily accessible by walking. I would have liked to include walking into the town Square and seeing the main cathedral as part of the tour. I think that could’ve been a quick add on before getting into the car. We didn’t really have that as part of the tour though. Once we were in the car and driving around, I liked the first stop at Saqsaywaman. However, there were two other ruins that seemed redundant and less important. I don’t feel like those were added value. Instead, we asked our tour guide if there were other things we could see, and he was able to pivot and take us to a llama farm. That was a highlight! We saw a llamas, alpacas, vicunas, guinea pigs and condors. We happen to get there around feeding time so we were able to feed them and interact. We thoroughly enjoyed that part of the tour.

The train ride through the Andes was magical! Everything from the staff, comfort of the cabin, food and drinks, and entertainment were exceptional. This leg of our trip was definitely more about the journey than the destination. We were only in Peru for a short time so utilizing one whole day to travel by train for 10 hours was a calculated decision that paid off. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the train and would highly recommend it to other others. It was a great way to see a part of the country that isn’t easy to access.

Uros floating islands was a really cool experience. There’s nothing like it and the people were warm and friendly. It’s a business though and they want us to buy their goods. They have us a ride in one of their boats which was fun. We also went to their little main island with a few restaurants. It’s a very different way of life and neat to see. Taquile island wasn’t very interesting. It took 1.5 hours to get there from Uros and there wasn’t really anything special except to see the native people and eat lunch. They had beautiful clothing but other than that I didn’t really get anything else out of it.
