Overview

This afternoon private driving tour will take you along the beautiful shores of the Athenian Riviera, a stretch of coastline that runs all the way from Athens down to Cape Sounion, a distance of around 30 miles. It is a coastline full of hidden surprises, from glitzy city suburbs to hidden lagoons, culminating in one of the most famous monuments of ancient Greece, the Temple of Poseidon. 

Your private driver will take you to Cape Sounion, where you will get to see the renowned Temple of Poseidon. This fabulous 5th-century archaeological site, overlooking the Saronic Gulf and its islands, dominates the southernmost tip of Attica, where the horizon meets the Aegean Sea, and where stories and legends unveil about the ship of King Menelaus who stopped briefly at Sounio on his way back from Troy; or about the unfortunate King Aegeus who drowned himself on that spot and the Aegean Sea got named after him; or about the people who built a temple using local marble to honor the God of the sea and safeguard the profits from the neighboring Lavrio mines. Please note that no certified guide is included in your visit to the Temple.

This tour will be arranged at the optimum time taking into account sunset, allowing time for dinner at a traditional tavern serving delicious fish and seafood, where a reservation will be made under your name. The meal is not included.

The Poseidon was really nice and very interesting to see. The Fish Tavern we had dinner at was in a great location on the water, but I did not like the meal. It was served family style and had alot of food that I would not eat. The red wine was very sweet and not good and there were alot of little bugs everywhere since we were on the water. Overall this was not a restaurant I would want to come back to. I am a very picky eater so some people would love this authentic restaurant, but not me. Read more
