What you'll do

This half-day excursion begins when you meet your local cycling guide and the rest of your small group in Stari Grad, located on Hvar's northern coast. After a quick safety briefing, you'll strap on a helmet and set off to explore the oldest town in Croatia (and one of the oldest in Europe) by bike. Pedal along the port, passing the Venetian-style red roofs and cobbled streets, then continue onto the Stari Grad Plain, a UNESCO-listed landscape of farmland and vineyards first cultivated by the ancient Greeks in the fourth century BCE. 

The exact route and distance of your ride can vary depending on the season and your preferences, but you'll likely follow a loop ranging from 6 to 9 miles (10 to 15 km), traversing quiet country roads and mostly flat terrain as you wind your way past fragrant lavender fields, tangled olive groves, and family-run vineyards. Your guide will share stories of island life and history as you pedal, and the relaxed pace means you'll have plenty of opportunities to stop and explore as you cruise through traditional inland villages and sleepy coastal towns like Jelsa and Vrboska.
