Private Day Trip to Hydra, Athens

Step back in time and enjoy a full-day excursion to the island of Hydra.

Overview

Step back in time and enjoy a full-day excursion to the island of Hydra. Filled with art and home to the great Leonard Cohen, car-free Hydra oozes charm with its cobbled streets, authentic stone houses, and traditional taverns. After a private transfer to the Port of Piraeus, you'll board a hydrofoil ferry and cruise through the Saronic Gulf to Hydra.

As soon as you step foot onto Hydra, you'll recognize the island's outstanding contribution to Greek Maritime history! The Greeks built the main town amphitheatrically, as a fortified port, adorning it with secluded squares, 18th-century mansions, old captains’ homes, churches, wells, and marble-covered lanes. The island's leisurely daily life hardly feels like the 21st century, as the locals transport everything by mule, cart, or hand.

Enjoy exploring the main town and admiring well-preserved mansions, monuments, and museums. Then, stroll along the waterfront, discover local neighborhoods, and wander the picturesque alleyways that seem never to stop twisting and turning. Learn about Hydra's history and how it played a crucial role in the Greek Revolution of 1821. The island's inhabitants banded together with the Spetses and Psara, leading the revolution by sea.

The tour includes a water-taxi to a secluded beach. Before heading back, enjoy a swim and relax with a traditional lunch by the sea.
