What you'll do
The tour starts at the centrally located Piazza della Repubblica, although if you're staying in the city center, you can also be picked up at your hotel. On your tour, you'll visit many of the city's best-known and best-loved attractions. You'll spy the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore with its gorgeous portico and ride down charming cobblestone streets to the amazing daily flower market at Campo de' Fiori. Your guide will share some of the fascinating history of the Eternal City with you while visiting the major sights, such as the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and the Circus Maximus, to name a few.
However, this tour is great too, as you'll also explore beyond the main highlights and venture off the beaten path. Zigzag through the beautiful residential streets of Palatine Hill to reach one of the city's secret spots, the Knights of Malta Keyhole, from where you'll be treated to a wonderfully framed view of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Stop at Largo Argentina, the spot where Julius Caesar was famously assassinated, before winding your way down to the Piramide Cestia, a Roman-era pyramid built between 18 and 12 BCE as a tomb for magistrate Gaius Cestius.
And as you journey through the Testaccio neighborhood, stop at the Mouth of Truth, watching as visitors slip their hands into this statue's mouth and learn the curious story behind this unique Roman legend.
