Pastéis de Nata Baking Class in Lisbon, Lisbon

Overview

With this experience, you have the chance to immerse yourself in local culture and cuisine as you learn how to make Lisbon's iconic sweet pastry dessert, pastéis de nata ((Portuguese custard tarts).

This sweet treat was first concocted by monks in Lisbon's Unesco-listed Jerónimos Monastery several centuries ago: supposedly to use up leftover egg yolks after they had used the egg whites to starch their clothing. The custard tart, known in its singular form as pastel de nata, is often sprinkled with cinnamon and served with coffee. The most popular version of the tart, pastéis de Belém, were even voted as one of Portugal's Seven Wonders of Gastronomy in 2011, and you'll learn how to make the very best custard tarts under the supervision of an experienced pastry chef.
