What you'll do

You'll meet your guide and the rest of your small group directly between Bilbao's modern downtown and its historic Casco Viejo (Old Town). As you set off toward the city's Nervión River, learn firsthand how Bilbao's modern expansion happened, beginning in the late 20th century. Pass contemporary sculptures like "Spider" by Louise Bourgeois and "Puppy" by Jeff Koons, and spot modern landmarks like Isozaki Towers and Zubizuri (White Bridge), designed by Calatrava. Of course, you can't miss admiring the unique exterior of the Guggenheim Museum, designed by the legendary architect Frank Gehry.

In contrast, the city's historic core is home to 700-year-old buildings and architecture dating back to the 13th century. Your guide will lead you along its cobbled streets and introduce you to its most iconic sites, including the Gothic Cathedral of Bilbao, Fuente Plaza Santiago, the Church of Saint Anthony, and Plaza Nueva.

In between all the sightseeing, you'll stop at five different eateries, stepping into favorite neighborhood haunts and handpicked local spots to enjoy pintxos and a glass of Spanish wine. This Basque Country answer to tapas is both a cultural and culinary institution, and you'll learn all about the art of ordering and experiencing an authentic "pintxos crawl." Taste each restaurant's specialty, which might include classics like txalupa (anchovy, pepper, and egg on toast), ham croquettes, and breaded mussels, paired with a high-quality wine from the national DO (Denominación de Origen) system.

I'm a kimkim staff member and I was on a work trip when I experienced Pintxos & Wine Tasting.
What an incredible experience it was to spend the first and second days in the Basque Country. This really broadened my horizons on food culture. We ate so many Pinxtos, that I was full pretty fast. The guide was very knowledgeable and studied history, art, and culture. You can really feel her deep connection with Basque Country and deep knowledge of Spain.
