What you'll do

Start your day with a visit to a 3000-year-old olive tree that is one of the oldest in the world and surprisingly still productive. A branch from this olive tree was used in the Olympic Games in 2004. Its mesmerizing presence makes you think of all the things it silently witnessed. There is a modest museum right in front of the three, showcasing tools used for the cultivation of the trees, traditional equipments, harvest tools, and many things related to olive production. If you'd like, you can explore the museum for free or just simply admire the tree, snap some pictures, and get ready for the next part of your journey. You could also grab a seat in the café next to the museum and have a refreshing drink.

Visit Anoskeli Winery Olive Mill and taste organic extra virgin olive oil served with bread, lemon, oil, and oregano. Continue with a winery experience by tasting five different local wines, each perfectly paired with its own Cretan snack, giving you and your taste buds the whole experience. As you sip, your host will teach you a bit about the country's wine production, including the local production in Crete. At the end of your visit, feel free to grab some olive oil or a bottle of local wine to take home with you.

Now your driver will start heading to Sebronas Gorge, and your adventurous Jeep safari starts. For half an hour, you'll be driving uphill, approaching the White Mountains, and passing through a rich variety of scenery—valleys with olive, orange, and avocado trees! Keep an eye out for the local wildlife; you'll most likely come across goats and sheep.

At 3300ft (1000m) altitude, you'll see Omalos Plateau, famous for its apples, honey, and mountain tea. This is where the shepherds have their sheep and goats at the plateau all year round. Here, you'll also stop by at the entrance of Samaria National Park, take your time enjoying the beauty of nature, and remember to take photos of the longest gorge in Europe (16km/10 miles). You'll also get to enjoy a delicious lunch featuring breathtaking views of the White Mountains. Indulge in traditional Cretan cuisine with a fresh seasonal salad, a glass of wine, and a sweet dessert to finish the meal.

As you drive down the White Mountains, you'll make a stop at an altitude of 3,300ft (1,000 meters), where you can admire the breathtaking views and capture some memories with your camera. Your drive back to Chania will take you through a diverse range of natural beauty, from towering cypress trees in the forest to verdant valleys dotted with lemon, orange, avocado, and olive trees. You'll get a chance to explore charming villages like Omalos, Lakki, Fournes, and Alikianos, each with its own unique local character.
