Overview

Indulge in a private floating sauna session, where you'll be greeted by a sauna master who will ensure your comfort and safety. Relax in the lux sauna floating atop the cold waters of the Aurlandsfjord, taking in the views via the panoramic windows. Alternate between the steamy 175°F (79°C) sauna and invigorating dips in the fjord's 40°F (4°C) waters, with easy access via outdoor ladders or a hatch inside the sauna. Perfect for relaxation after a hike and ideal for those seeking both tranquility and natural beauty.

What you'll do

Upon arriving at the floating sauna, you'll be provided an introduction to the sauna's unique features and safety protocols. Once ready, you'll step into the sauna, which features large panoramic windows offering sweeping views of the Aurlandsfjord and surrounding mountains. The electric heater inside the sauna can be adjusted to your comfort, and you can add fresh water to create a steamier environment. As you relax in the sauna, you'll feel the stress and tension melt away, especially after a long day of exploring.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can access the fjord via the ladders outside, jump from the rooftop, or use the hatch within the sauna. Alternating between the hot sauna and a cold plunge into the fjord is highly encouraged for an invigorating and refreshing session—a quintessential Norwegian experience that should not be missed.

Bring your own towels so you don't need to rent them (we snuck ours out of the hotel which was not a problem because we brought them back)

I'm a kimkim staff member and I was on a work trip when I experienced the Private Floating Sauna Experience. This was incorrectly scheduled; I did not have a private experience, I was crammed into the sauna with 2 other couples and a family of 6. They were all friendly but none of us were terribly comfortable. Aside from the lack of space in a sweaty environment, the sauna felt great and jumping into the fjord a dozen times was insanely fun, especially being able to climb a ladder on top on... Read more

They were all friendly but none of us were terribly comfortable. Aside from the lack of space in a sweaty environment, the sauna felt great and jumping into the fjord a dozen times was insanely fun, especially being able to climb a ladder on top on the saune to jump/dive/canonball into the water.

Tips for future travelers

Inside the sauna is a button to release water from a showerhead onto the hot stones to increase the temperature. The button is extremely sensitive - if you push it a little too hard, the showerhead will spray way too much water onto the rocks and it will steam way too much to the point of extreme discomfort... a little kid from the family in my sauna did that and most of the participants, including me, stepped out of the sauna and into the changing-room area/out into the fjord to escape the unbearable heat.

The Saunamaster is just a normal staff member of the company who gives you a 2-minute explanation of how to use the sauna and that you can jump off the roof if you want. They sit outside on their phone the rest of the time unless called upon.
