What you'll do

Grab a hearty breakfast and don your best waterproof gear and hiking boots—you're off on an adventurous nature hike through some of Skye's wildest landscapes. This private, customizable experience begins when your personal ghillie (outdoor guide) picks you up in a Land Rover for the short drive to a protected island estate. From here, you'll set off on foot, following hidden trails and glacial glens as your ghillie leads you on a route tailored to your interests and the season.

You might explore ancient woodlands, cross biodiverse salt marshes, pass rushing waterfalls, or skirt inland sea lochs as you cover anywhere from 2-8 miles (3-12 km). Hear transporting stories of Skye's rich history, from the Neolithic period to Viking raids and the infamous Highland Clearances, and learn how to read the island's rugged landscapes and changeable weather like a local.

Stop to search for wildlife like otters, seals, red deer, foxes, and golden eagles with the help of a high-powered spotting scope, and identify wild orchids, sundew, and other native flora as your ghillie teaches you the basics of foraging and bushcraft. Depending on the season, you might also gather wild berries, mushrooms, and nuts, or collect firewood and help build a fire to brew some bog myrtle tea. Expect a duration of 4-5 hours, with plenty of breaks and gentle but often slippery terrain that's suitable for even the most casual of hikers. The day ends with a return transfer via Land Rover.
