Saronic Islands Day Cruise, Athens

4.7 (3 reviews)
Leave the bustle of Athens behind and discover the charm of the Saronic Islands with this all-day cruise.

Overview

Leave the bustle of Athens behind and discover the charm of the Saronic Islands with this all-day cruise. Visit three islands in an elegant style: Hydra, Poros, and Aegina. A comfortable ship with three decks transports you through the Saronic Gulf as you sunbathe, relax with a drink, or take in the scenery. Enjoy the fresh sea air or participate in onboard optional activities, such as Greek dance lessons and orchestra performances.

You'll board the cruise with a live orchestra playing traditional Greek music and international favorites. Start the morning with an optional breakfast of Greek products, or head for the sundeck to enjoy the colorful views. Embrace the gentle breeze of the Saronic Gulf as you watch the island scenery pass you by.

Hydra, a car-free island featuring amazing architecture, a buzzy harbor, and charming streets infused with art, history, and culture. The locals transport everything by hand, cart, or mule in Hydra, so you'll feel like you stepped back in time amongst its cobbled streets.

Poros, a quiet island known for its exceptional beaches and picturesque lemon groves. Stroll through the historic town center to find the clocktower and the old windmill, or take a taxi to one of the beaches.

Aegina, known for its authentic cultural heritage, its delicious pistachios, the beautiful beaches, the Temple of Aphea and St. Nektarios Monastery. The island features a charming old town and folklore museum.

Choose between two tours: walking tour in Hydra or panoramic tour in Aegina

Walking tour in Hydra includes:
- Oldest Navy School of Europe (dated by the 18th century in a neoclassical building)
- The statue of captain “Miaouli”
- The donkeys- Hydra’s main mean of transportation!
- Oldest pastry shop of the island where hospitality and a treat of the famous sweets called “amygdalota” prepared with rose water, almonds and orange flowers, is enjoyed by the visitor.
- The monastery dedicated to the Assumption of Virgin Mary and its miraculous icon.
- The Ecclesiastical and Byzantine Museum of the monastery admiring icons and ecclesiastical items of the 17 – 18 – 19th centuries’, is a very important part of the tour.

Panoramic tour in Aegina includes:
Crossing the Northern part by bus, the most beautiful part of Aegina with its crystal blue water and its traditional houses! Discovering the hidden jewels of the island, with fantastic views and amazing colors as well as big plantations of pistachio trees.
Six stops at the most significant attractions of the island without getting of the bus (photo stops), a twenty-minute stop at the Monastery of St. Nektarios, followed by a stop at a traditional Greek “taverna” for our passengers to try local delicacies. During the excursion, the host/ess is giving all the information needed upon pistachio nuts, the island’s history and many fun facts.

Tips for future travelers

This was a nice day trip. We had VIP package which was nice. The pro’s were that you get to see 3 islands, spend a day at sea, VIP lounge with your own waitress, and first on/off. That said, you only get a little time on the islands, the food was meh, and it’s a lot of people. If I had to do it again, I’d charter my own boat.
