What you'll do

Begin your discovery of the most picturesque neighborhoods in Athens—Plaka and Anafiotika—at 5 pm. After a brief introduction by your guide, you will start winding your way down the narrow, cobbled streets of these neighborhoods while receiving an informed commentary.

Your guide will recount stories about how the great Pericles met Aspasia—the beautiful courtesan that stole his heart, starting one of the greatest romances in ancient Greece. And what do the little white and blue Anafiotika houses hide beside their Cycladic origins? Who is the unsung hero behind the Lysicrates monument?

After strolling the streets at dusk, your guide will lead you to an old wine bar where you will taste four Greek wines. Aided by a professional wine connoisseur, sample indigenous varieties of red and white wine accompanied by a selection of cheeses—such as Gruyere from Naxos, and Pecorino from Amfilochia—together with Greek marmalade and breadsticks.

Once the hour-long wine tasting is over, you are free to continue experimenting with Greek wine or opt instead for an evening stroll along the streets.
