Kasbah Titrit, Aït Benhaddou

3.9 (34 reviews) · Comfort
Basic guest house offering a spa with multiple pools and a restaurant with al fresco dining

Overview

Nestled in the Ounila Valley of the High Atlas, Kasbah Titrit offers a simple yet tranquil retreat amid spectacular landscapes rich in Amazigh cultural heritage. Its location in the village of Tamdakhte is a haven for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and history enthusiasts. The valley, once a significant caravan route, is scattered with ancient kasbahs and adobe villages. The hotel is a mere 6-minute drive from Aït Benhaddou and about 40 minutes from Ouarzazate. As you unwind, you'll find yourself surrounded by almond groves and nestled among the gardens of Tamdakhte.

Kasbah Titrit's rooms and suites can feel a bit outdated or basic, yet all offer high ceilings, earthy construction, and wax-finish walls that showcase local architecture. Each unit features a spacious layout and a private terrace with views of the Atlas mountains. Bathrooms are crafted from tadelakt, a water-based, shiny, and waterproof lime plaster traditionally used in Moroccan design. Past kimkim travelers have mixed feelings; while some enjoyed the hotel and its views, others felt it was too outdated.

At Kasbah Titrit, you'll have access to the property's wellness area, which provides two hammams, a sauna, an indoor Jacuzzi, an outdoor panoramic Jacuzzi, a heated swimming pool, two massage rooms, a treatment room, and a gym. Enjoy a meal under the stars or a sunset aperitif on the panoramic terrace while taking in views of the Tamdakhte gardens and the Ounila Valley. The hotel's restaurant offers a blend of French and traditional Berber cuisine prepared with fresh, seasonal produce.

Kasbah Titrit is the coolest hotel we have ever stayed at. The building is breathtakingly beautiful even from the main road. The grounds are enchanting, as you can freely walk through the remaining structures and corridors of the ancient Kasbah. The hotel is palatial and ornate, with a calming ambience and a substantial pool and spa. Our room was riveting and spacious with high ceilings and a large, private balcony where we could sit and look out at the lush valley below. The service at this hotel was of the highest caliber. Dinner and breakfast were beyond bountiful. They just kept bringing more and more of the most beautiful, delicious food. We consistently felt like we were the only guests in the entire establishment.

While we were excited about staying at a Kasbah - the actual experience was not ideal. The electricity in the room kept flickering and the heating would turn off and then start flashing several times in the night. Making for a very unrestful night.
The only available shower had no walls or curtains and the shower head sprayed water everywhere - so it was impossible to shower without flooding the entire bathroom.
The dinner was a set menu and we had only the option to select our meat without any indication of how it would be prepared. While the meal was delicious - we felt like we were somewhat trapped and didn’t have the option to pick something else.
Perhaps the experience would be different during the high season - we were the only guests at the Kasbah and would not care to repeat the experience.

We discovered used underwear left behind in the room by a previous guest. Made us suspicious about the degree of cleanliness of the room overall.

Pros: Scenic location set away from the main touristy area of Ait Benhaddou. Nice staff. Our room had an open patio with a view.
Cons: Found dinner to be a little more expensive than other places with the food only being OK compared to other places we stayed throughout Morocco.
Note: this area was impacted by the recent earthquake (the hotel was fine!) so the town seemed especially quiet and you could see that some repairs were underway. Hope more people are able to come visit this beautiful... Read more

My husband and I were on a 10 day round trip through Morocco. It was an incredible experience.

From the very start, when we were planning our trip, communicating with Original Travels and deciding on the hotels and activities, everything was handled very professionally.

Once we were in the country, everything was very smooth and professional. All our activities, city guides, and visits were ready when we arrived. Each hotel was a local highlight and very well chosen by them. The service and comfort the hotels provided were exceptional.

On top of that, our driver, Soufiane, was a gem. His gentle and calm demeanor, and his many connections in various places (hotels, restaurants, parking lots, local sellers, etc), as well as local knowledge while driving through the country, was invaluable. We would have never had that insight into the country and people, and the whole trip was very easy because of his support and knowledge of the culture.

He was also very flexible and stopped anytime we wanted to or saw something that was not in our official itinerary.
It was like individual travel while having a local expert.

We highly recommend KimKim and Original Travels for your personalized, individual trip to Morocco!
