Best of Puerto Iguazu

Top itineraries and travel advice in and around Puerto Iguazu
Thundering Iguazú Falls ranks among the most impressive waterfalls on the planet. In fact there are more than 275 cascades gushing over basalt cliffs between Argentina and Brazil. It’s easy to spend a full day here as there’s much to experience apart from the dramatic cascades. The national park surrounding Iguazú consists largely of tropical rainforest and is full of exotic plant and animal species. The peaceful town of Puerto Iguazú makes a good overnight base with ample lodging and dining options.

Full-day tours of the falls take you on guided circuits both above and below the falls on long walkways that put you close to the action. The highlight is the viewing platform of the pounding Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat). For a bit more adventure, you can take a motorboat near the falls to feel the spray and hear the deafening roar, or immerse yourself in the rainforest while hiking, biking, kayaking or birdwatching. Near Iguazú, you can explore Jesuit missions and visit indigenous communities.
