When traveling from Marrakech to nearby Amizmiz—a village 37 miles (59 km) southwest, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains—travelers have three options for making the short journey, all by road. For travelers looking for flexible arrival/departure times, who want to break up the journey with multiple stops, and/or those who are traveling onward from Amizmiz, hiring a private driver or renting a car is the best bet. Those looking to make the journey without any stops and/or return to Marrakech after Amizmiz might consider hiring a taxi.

By Private Driver or Rental Car

Duration: 45 minutes - 1 hour

Hiring a private driver or renting a car and driving to Amizmiz from Marrakech is a great option for those journeying further onward from Amizmiz, would like to stop at points of interest along the way, or might be looking to stock up on an especially heavy haul of souvenirs at the market in Amizmiz.

Because of Amizmiz's location at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, getting there does not require traversing difficult mountain roads, so even nervous drivers will feel comfortable. The journey is full of beautiful scenery, including strawberry groves, pine forests, and snowcapped mountains in the distance, so travelers interested in stopping for photographs or small excursions may be particularly interested in this option.

Horseback riding and hiking are both available near Amizmiz, and travelers who will be continuing on from Amizmiz town to do any of these activities in the surrounding areas will want to have a car at their disposal to take them to onward.

By Taxi

Duration: 45 minutes - 1 hour

Your hotel can call you a taxi to take you from Marrakech to Amizmiz. If a taxi is arranged to pick you up from your hotel, the driver will simply arrive and take you straight to Amizmiz, with a total travel time of one hour or less, depending on traffic. The driver can wait in Amizmiz, and take you back to Marrakech at an agreed-upon time.

If you would like to get your own taxi without the assistance of a hotel concierge, an additional step is required. Travelers will first need to take a "petit taxi" (which can hold a maximum of three passengers) to a specific taxi stand where "grand taxis" wait for passengers. You can simply tell the petit taxi driver you are going to Amizmiz, and need a grand taxi. "Grand taxis" (which can hold up to six passengers) take travelers to locations outside of Marrakech proper. It is important to note that some grand taxi drivers will make you wait until all six seats in the taxi are full before they will take you on your journey to Amizmiz.
