We are very grateful to Erin and the kimkim team for putting together a fantastic and memorable holiday this May. Our decision to go to Nepal was pretty last minute and not exactly at the best time of year to visit, but with Erin's guidance we were able to figure out an itinerary with all of the experiences we were looking for, while maximizing the opportunities for good weather and clear skies/views. Our trip included a four-day trek from Jomsom - with an incredibly memorable flight to reach Jomsom - and a couple days of relaxation in Pokhara on the back end at a stunning property. It was a perfect balance of activity and relaxation. The whole trip was seamless thanks to the KimKim team and our excellent guide, Mingma. Having all of the logistical stress removed meant that we were able to fully enjoy the experience. The team even made sure that we got the most out of our layover in Kathmandu, arranging for us to be picked up and see some highlights of the city. We look forward to traveling with kimkim again in the future and have already recommended them to family and friends.

Erin helped me a lot by providing some information about this whole trip as this is my time to come trekking in Nepal. Everything was excellent and the one thing I was impressed was to see the local people in Langtang who work hard to rebuild their villages destroyed by the earthquake in 2015.

The planning was very helpful and my guide, Ngawang Sherpa, was great. However I feel slightly deceived. My trip cost over $100USD per day, and I was assured that it would be just as expensive to do it on my own. However, I looked at prices while trekking and it would have cost me around $25 a day including my permits and transportation.
The trek was beautiful though and the experience was so memorable. I would definitely suggest to someone trekking in Annapurna to do it without a guide however, because you could save so much money.

I have nothing but kind things to say regarding my recent trip to Pikey Peak in Nepal. Both Rachel and I had never been to Nepal before, and were overwhelmed with the kindness and hospitality we experienced both with the company and people we stayed with throughout the trek.

Needless to say, you need a guide if you have never hiked or journeyed through Nepal before. It is not only essential for your safety, but also because local guides have immense amount of knowledge and insight about Nepal culture, people, language, and places. It really adds to the trip to have guide who can help show you these parts of Nepal as well.

Our six day trek was wonderful. Picky Peak gave us beautiful view of various mountain ranges, including Mount Everest. Naress, our guide, was absolutely wonderful in providing us with any assistance we needed (whether it be encouragement on long hiking days or making sure all of our lodging was warm and accommodating). We also enjoyed our porter, Mingma Sherpa, who taught us different words in the Sherpa language and took us around a monastery in Junbesi.

My only critique of the trip was feeling under prepared in terms of packing as my friend Rachel also expressed in her review. If you go during the rainy season, it is very cold at night, especially at high altitudes. Perhaps an area of improvement for KimKim could be more transparency in telling us to pack warmer clothes, a sleeping bag, and other necessities.

Overall though, excellent company, guide, porter, and experience. Would certainly recommend to anyone who has limited time but wants to explore Nepal!

Hey Kelly, thanks for taking the time to leave a thorough review, great to hear that you had the support you needed along the way from Naresh and Mingma. Pikey Peak is a stunning area and great that you got some insight into 'real' Nepal, too.
It certainly can get cold at night when you're at altitude or in a blustery place like Pikey Peak and we do provide a full packing list, sounds like you guys missed it in the chat.
We would love to see you back again, maybe a trek that goes a little higher next time? :)

I inquired on a whim just to ask a few questions and Mads and Amanda took full reigns to cater the trip specifically for what we wanted to see, do, and experience all within our time frame. Their tips were very informative and helpful as well as prompt.

As for the actual trek, we got taxi pick up with our guide, Naress, on the first day and he accompanied us 24/7 after that. Naress was AMAZING. He cared for us on the 14 hour Jeep ride to Phaplu and made sure we knew what was going on. He always made sure we were fed, warm, and taking breaks to rest. His guidance was necessary and he taught us so much about Nepali culture. He also taught us plenty of Nepali phrases we could use to talk to the people we met at the tea houses. We also had a Sherpa, Mingmar Sherpa, who carried some of the luggage weight. GRATEFUL FOR THIS. My favorite town was Junbesi where we visited a monastery, but the highlight of the trip was seeing Everest from the top of Pikey Peak. A little cold due to the rainy season climate, but absolutely stunning.

On the jeep ride back, Naress purchased an extra seat so that we would have more room on the 8 hour ride home. This. was. life giving. THANK YOU NARESS!

Overall, the only thing I was confused by was the packing list. I don't remember being told we would have a Sherpa or that we should bring x, y, z warm gear. Maybe that could be an improvement?

I cannot thank the kimkim team enough for this trip. I have already recommended the company to 4 different friend groups heading to Nepal later this year, and I will certainly go back to kimkim if I return to Nepal one day.
Thank you and happy trails!

You had initially asked about what gear to bring and the detailed gear list was sent over to you then, it sounds like Kripa and Naresh were able to clarify your questions about gear in your pre-trek briefing.

We went in the off season, but were very lucky with both the weather and open tea houses. The only unfortunate thing was that the packing list provided to us was definitely optimized for the fall and winter, and we were way over-laden with warm clothes, rain gear and sleeping bags that we didn't need. We gave an idea of things we would be interested in doing while in Nepal and Raj, Anura and team planned it out flawlessly. Our only complaint is that we didn't stay longer to experience more of what Nepal has to offer. We had no worries traveling while in the hands of this team. They transported us where we needed to go and we had a guide at each destination. We spent a day visiting the local temples, a couple days trekking through the mountains ending with camping out at a beach resort as we prepared for a white water rafting trip. But our last destination was one of my favorite stops, the city of Bhaktapur. We toured the city from sunup to sundown with our guide. I feel like we had a behind the scenes look at the culture and lifestyle and loved every minute of it. The guide was superb, the places he took us were amazing- I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Thank you Raj and team! Our endearingly cheeky, lively, careful guide Pemba Sherpa and warm-natured assistant guide Dendi Sherpa took assiduous care of us on our fabulous 7-day trek, always observing how we were coping and adjusting pace or route accordingly and with respectful grace, shown clearly when one of our group unfortunately had a gastric reaction early on in the trip. They were always there, endlessly good-humoured and supportive. Pemba had to make some considered decisions on our return route, given road closure times due to the current massive Chinese road construction. Our two excellent, nimble porters were smiling and good-natured. We also appreciated the extra time Pemba took to guide us on our "free" day in Kathmandu at the end, when we were lucky enough to visit sites on Buddha's birthday. Although we were sad not to meet Ngima after all our communications with him, he had ensured we were well cared for in his absence (doing good works in his home village). Many thanks, NMMT.

I consider myself a low-maintenance traveler, so I was not used to having such a highly attentive team. But I’m grateful for it. They took care of every detail, leaving my focus only on soaking in the scenery, history, culture, and terrain of one of the most beautiful countries on earth.
Kunchok guided me through selecting a trek and preparing for it. He was responsive to every question and upfront with all the details we would need to know. He met us as we arrived at our hotel and ensured that we were briefed in person on the timeline and the details of the trek.
I had selected the short Dhampus Trek with my brother. Our guide in the mountains was Dawa. He was phenomenal—entirely professional and highly knowledgeable. And we felt as though he were a close friend by the end of the trek. He helped us navigate cultural nuances as well as fully explained all stretches of the trek to us. He left both of us wanting to return and trek again with him one day.
Rajive was our guide for a day in Kathmandu, and we were left feeling like we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. He asked us about our timeline and our interests, and then he made tailored suggestions to us that allowed us to see both the major Kathmandu sites as well as some off-the-beaten-path sites that allowed us to feel as though we’d been given a private view into the true vibe of that culturally rich city.
At an incredibly reasonable price, Responsible Treks seamlessly took us from A to Z along our trip, and left us feeling beyond satisfied. I highly recommend this team.

Ngima's company, Nepal Myths and Mountain Trails, was amazing! From the first steps of communication to our arrival to our trek and to an additional day trip after that, we were responded to promptly, effectively, and with the utmost of care. We did the three passes trek with Ang gelu Sherpa as our guide. He was an exceptional guide and an awesome person. He made sure that our experience was perfect at all times. While our experience leads us to believe that Ngima's company would be an amazing choice no matter what, we recommend that you request Ang gelu as your guide. Our porters Kima and Pemba were also incredible. Ngima also provided a great representative, Tashi, who met us at our hotel, briefed us before the trip, arranged transportation to and from the airport, and even helped to coordinate an additional trip to Bhaktapur after we finished trekking . Throughout the entire trip we felt like we were in knowledgeable and capable hands. If you are looking to trek in Nepal, we highly recommend using Nepal Myths and Mountain Trails.
