Acropolis & Flavors of Athens, Athens

Explore Athens' 'must-see' attraction with a private all-day guided walking tour of the Acropolis, followed by a food walking tour through the city's neighborhoods.

Overview

Explore Athens' 'must-see' attraction with a private all-day guided walking tour of the Acropolis, followed by a food walking tour through the city's neighborhoods. As the most iconic landmark in Athens, you'll discover the once-powerful Ancient Greek civilization that flourished here thousands of years ago. Your professional guide will give you a local and insider view of the buildings and monuments that sit atop Acropolis Hill and the flavors of the city.

After meeting your guide and learning about what the tour entails, you'll set off to explore this ancient UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll start by learning about the 5th-century BCE ruins of the rocky hilltop, making sense of what the city once looked like. Your guide will share stories of the country's history, culture, and mythology.

On this tour, you'll visit all the important monuments, starting with the Propylaea at the entrance and the Temple of Athena Nike next to it. At the iconic Parthenon, you'll learn more about Athena, Athens' patron goddess and the protector of the city. Keep walking and discover the sacred Temple of Erechtheion. Your guide will help you understand Athens' heritage and the Ancient Greek's cultural achievements in the Golden Age.

When finished at the Acropolis, you'll act like a true Athenian and make your way through different neighborhoods while tasting local delicacies. You'll visit hidden gems set in authentic corners of the city, dedicated artisans using recipes passed down by generations, specialized food stores sourcing products from all over Greece, and a vibrant central food market. Learn all about traditional and modern Greek cuisine and the importance of the local food culture.

This tour starts in the morning to avoid the heat and crowds on the Acropolis Hill. Please bear in mind that the Acropolis involves quite a number of slippery and steep steps.
