Mountain Hike & Authentic Lunch in Imlil Valley near Marrakech, Marrakesh

Overview

Trade the hustle of vibrant Marrakech for a peaceful visit to the scenic Atlas Mountains and traditional Berber villages. The High Atlas Mountains stretch across Central Morocco, with the most prominent peak (Mount Toubkal) sitting above the popular trekking town of Imlil.

The Imlil Valley hosts several Berber villages and farms. To reach them, you'll twist along a scenic route that follows a river and passes by Lalla Takerkoust Lake. You can stop here for a break if you wish. Eventually, you'll end at the town of Imi Oughlad, which offers superb views of Mt. Toubkal, Morocco's highest peak at 13,671 feet (4,167m). Here you'll find one of the best hiking areas in the country and refreshing mountain air.

You won't summit the mountain peak, but instead, enjoy a gentle walk with a guide while passing through terraced fields in the heart of Toubkal National Park. Take in the breathtaking views of the mountain peaks and relax in the lush fields of apple and walnut trees surrounding the town.

Before returning to Marrakech, savor a traditional lunch in a Berber house. As you enjoy your meal, you'll learn more about the authentic life of Berber people.
