What you'll do

Your adventure begins at 6 pm when you'll meet your Sámi guides in Tromsø. From there, you'll embark on a scenic 45-minute transfer to the reindeer camp, a family-run business. Upon arrival, you'll be outfitted in thermal winter suits and warm boots to ensure your comfort in the cold. The night's highlight will be a 30-minute reindeer sledding ride, the oldest and most traditional mode of transportation in Northern Norway. The sleds, typically shared by two participants, are linked together in a long line, known as a "raid," and are a great way to take in the snowy scene.

After sledding, you'll gather in a traditional Sámi tent, a lavvu, to enjoy a hot meal of bithos, a traditional Sámi meat stew (vegetarian options are available upon request). As you dine, your guides will share captivating stories about Sámi culture and history, enriching your understanding of this Indigenous community. Later, you'll have the opportunity to feed the camp's herd of hundreds of reindeer, creating a deeper connection with these animals.

When the evening winds down, you'll retire to your lavvu for the night, sleeping on reindeer hides in winter-insulated sleeping bags. But before you get too cozy, make a point to look up and scan the horizon; given the camp's remote location, with minimal artificial light, there's an excellent chance to witness the northern lights dancing overhead. In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, you'll be transported back to Tromsø by bus, arriving around 11 am.

I’d skip this! Too crowded and the overnight was ok, but the beds and sleeping bags seemed dirty and wet! Staff didn’t tell us when breakfast was so we missed it! There is no sink to wash your hands or brush your teeth. I wouldn’t not so this activity. We arrived very late back to Tromso and not as advertised on their site. The pictures are far nicer then the actual experience. Read more

Tips for future travelers

I really would skip this - it’s very expensive and not a great experience.
