What you'll do

Your walk begins in Menaggio, where you'll meet your guide and leave behind the lakeside bustle for a quieter side of Lake Como, starting with Loveno. You'll set out toward this ancient hillside hamlet on the southern slopes above Menaggio to wander along stone alleyways that suddenly open to breathtaking lake and centuries-old villa views, listening to your guide as they share the area's history.

From Loveno, you'll continue into Val Sanagra, a green and little-visited valley, where you'll follow an easy route that's suitable for most travelers (including non-hikers), with plenty of opportunities to pause for photos and enjoy the idyllic setting. Along the way, you'll cross a suspension bridge and pass traces of the valley's working past, where water once powered local industries. You'll also see historic buildings that have found new life, including an old brickworks now used as a museum and a former nail factory transformed into a welcoming agriturismo specializing in sustainable trout and sturgeon farming.

It's here, in the property's farmhouse, that you'll meet the owner and learn how the farm operates with respect to the environment, followed by sitting down to a relaxed family-style lunch of the freshest ingredients.
