What you'll do

Prepare for an evening of fine whisky and colorful storytelling when you join your guide and the rest of your group at the meeting spot and take a short stroll over to The Waverly, a beloved Edinburgh institution located just off the Royal Mile. Built atop the remains of the city's 16th-century Flodden Wall, the pub's black-and-white Victorian facade leads into an eccentric, colorful interior; look up to find a ceiling papered with Edinburgh Fringe Festival flyers, and spot the famous taxidermied crocodiles behind the bar.

Step into a cozy back room, nab a table, and sit down to a convivial two-hour experience led by your entertaining (and deeply knowledgeable) local storyteller. In between guided tastings of four whiskies from Scotland's major whisky regions—Lowlands, Highlands, Speyside, and Islay—you'll learn how the spirit became part of the country's culture and history as you listen to engrossing, theatrical tales interwoven with folklore, tradition, and plenty of humor. (Even non-whisky drinkers are welcome, and substitutions with alternative or nonalcoholic drinks are available.)
