3HB Faro, Faro (Algarve)
Urban 5-star retreat with contemporary designer interiors, two on-site restaurants, and a rooftop pool and bar
Overview
Kimkim's Take

- The city-center location puts Faro's Old Town and waterfront within an easy 5-minute stroll, with easy access to beaches and islands via the public ferry.
- Rooms feel understated but luxurious, with private teak balconies, bedside USB chargers, electric blackout curtains, Nespresso machines, and Marshall speakers.
- The stylish rooftop terrace offers some of the best views in the city, plus a large infinity pool, teak loungers, and a poolside bar.
- Choose between two on-site restaurants: a top-floor spot with Algarve-inspired tasting menus or a popular streetside Italian joint with cocktails and DJ nights.
- Spa facilities include an indoor pool with hydrotherapy jets, a hammam, a large sauna, and Technogym fitness equipment.
- There's no on-site parking, but the hotel's tuk-tuk can take you to and from private reserved lots.
Authenticity
3HB Faro opened in 2021, after a creative reimagining by architect Miguel Abreu turned this once-abandoned cinema into a stylish fusion of new and old (and gave the city it's first 5-star hotel). The red 18th-century facade is now married with soaring sections of black metal and glass, while interiors by designer Paulo Lobo feel minimalist but inviting, with lots of warm teak wood and local Algarve limestone. Artful touches like hand-painted pottery and clay octopus pots reflect the coastal setting, while airy, sun-filled rooms are accented with traditional Serra da Estrela handwoven throws and woven baskets.
Location
The hotel's entrance sits on the Rua Vasco da Gama, one of downtown Faro's many cobbled pedestrian avenues filled with shops and restaurants. It's a 5-minute walk to the walls of the Cidade Velha (Old Town) and the waterfront, where you can hop on a public ferry to reach coastal beaches and the islands and lagoons of Ria Formosa Natural Park. The airport is a 15-minute drive away, and there's a complimentary tuk-tuk service on hand to take you to and from the nearby parking lot or train station.
Rooms & Bathrooms
The 100+ rooms blend soft putty walls and Alentejo-crafted teak with plush headboards and armchairs in shades of kelly green and ocher. Each unit includes a furnished balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows, plus electric blackout curtains, Marshall speakers, and Nespresso machines. Standard units are surprisingly spacious, but you can upgrade to a Superior for more square footage, splurge on a Suite for a separate living room, or nab one of the Jacuzzi rooms for an outdoor hot tub. Bathrooms are no afterthought: expect copper accents, polished concrete surfaces, and glass walls that darken with the touch of a button.
Amenities
3HB Faro's rooftop terrace is the place to be come sunset, with dazzling views over the city toward the Ria Formosa. A glass infinity pool, rows of teak loungers, and a poolside bar add to the "urban resort" energy. The top floor is also home to Hábito, a stylish spot for Algave-inspired tasting menus and fresh seafood. On the ground level, the Forno Nero restaurant serves casual Italian fare, with a cocktail bar and DJ nights that attract locals alongside guests. There's also an inviting spa area with an indoor pool, hammam, and sauna, plus Technogym fitness equipment and treatment rooms.
Family-Friendliness
Children are welcome at 3HB Faro, though the hotel's urban-chic vibe draws more couples and single travelers. Family-friendly amenities include a fenced playground area in the courtyard and kids' menus in restaurants. Cribs are available upon request, and you'll have plenty of room options for larger groups, including adjoining units and family rooms with multiple sofa beds.
