Pros
  • You'll find the hotel perched at the water's edge, with easy access to Ålesund's main street.
  • Rooms are modern and comfortable, and those on the third floor have been recently updated.
  • The ground-floor Social Bar & Bistro offers a complimentary Scandinavian breakfast buffet.
  • The Lobby Bar's outdoor terrace is the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the water (there are even blankets and heaters for chillier evenings).
  • A small but well-equipped gym is located on the hotel's top floor.
Cons
  • Parking isn't available directly at the hotel, but there are paid lots within walking distance.
  • Some rooms may experience noise from the lobby bar.

Authenticity

Quality Hotel Ålesund does a nice job of echoing elements of the city's famous Art Nouveau heritage in its contemporary facade. While this is a large chain property and there's not much local character, its enviable location at the water's edge in central Ålesund puts you in a prime position for exploring on foot, and you'll be able to watch ships gliding past from the hotel's sea-view rooms and the restaurant's outdoor terrace.

Location

The hotel is located right off Ålesund's main street, brimming with shops, cafés, and restaurants. It's a lively area with a bustling atmosphere, but the water's edge location also means sweeping views of the sea and surrounding islands. Attractions like the KUBE art museum and the Fisheries Museum are within 15 minutes on foot, and the city's excellent bus system can get you to highlights like the Sunnmøre Museum and the Aksla viewpoint in about 20 minutes. It's a 20-minute drive from the airport, though there's no on-site parking available (the hotel can help recommend several paid lots within walking distance).

Rooms & Bathrooms

The 140+ rooms are clean and bright, with stylish Scandinavian touches like Ekornes chairs. Standard options are the most basic, Superiors add a sofa bed and extra room to spread out, and Deluxe rooms guarantee dramatic sea views. There are also Family and Suite configurations for larger groups and Accessible rooms for guests with disabilities. Request a room on the third floor to enjoy newly renovated interiors with spacious, updated bathrooms.

Amenities

A continental breakfast buffet is offered each morning in the on-site Social Bar & Bistro, featuring local Scandinavian classics, lots of organic items, and Fairtrade coffee. Later in the day, a lunch and dinner menu of brasserie-style dishes like steak frites are served in the same cozy dining space. Next to reception, you'll find the Lobby Bar, a handy spot to grab a coffee during the day or cocktails after dark on the outdoor terrace, which is positioned to catch the sunset and comes complete with heaters and blankets for chilly evenings. There's also a small but well-equipped gym on the hotel's top floor.

Family-Friendliness

The hotel welcomes families, and its spacious Family Rooms and Junior Suites can sleep up to four with bunk beds and sofa beds for children. Extra cribs and beds are available for a fee.

Authenticity & Character
Location and layout of the common areas (reception, dining room, sitting rooms, etc.) contributed to the charm of the hotel.
Location
Enjoyed the location on the bay and found it was well positioned within a fun part of the city, close to restaurants and shopping. Would like to point out that in very close walking distance to the hotel there was a Chinese restaurant called HK. My family thought it was the best Chinese restaurant we ever ate in. The food was fresh, excellently prepared and tasted wonderful. This is saying a lot because we have dined in countless Chinese restaurants back home.

Quality Hotel Ålesund was a nice spot to stay with a lovely waterfront view. It was comfortable and provided all the amenities we needed. Again, the breakfast offerings were superb. It was a good base for exploring Ålesund.

Quality Hotel Ålesund stood out as our favorite accommodation during the trip. The rooms were spacious compared to the ones in busier cities, which was a refreshing change. The location and overall atmosphere made it very pleasant to stay there. I would happily stay there again.

This hotel is right on the water and on the edge of the main street with shops, cafes, and restaurants in Ålesund! When I checked in, since I was early, I asked if I'd get a better room in the same tier if I were to wait to check in - they said yes. They suggested I waited a few hours and I could probably get a room with a view to the water. This is exactly what I did and exactly what I got. This hotel has a great breakfast and a restaurant for dinner. They also have a small menu that they offer 24/7 with paninis, pizzas, and such. This was so nice for me, getting in and just wanting something quick.

Not very friendly. Hotel was mostly empty, and they could have put us in a room that was higher up, away from the noise. Also, no view at all from the room other than the rooms directly across from us.

Really nothing wrong with this hotel but it was our least favorite of our trip. The rooms were small. Not really much of a view from our rooms. The very young woman at the front desk seemed new and lacked warmth as well as critical knowledge which made our interactions and stay a bit too much work, and a bit less pleasant. The slightly older woman at the front desk seemed top notch. The view from g to be patio bar was tremendous. No parking so you must fend for a spot. Read more
