Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Norway!

The beautiful sorroundings in Sunnmøre
Panoramic views across Sunnmøre

Welcome to Norway! Your adventure begins at Oslo Central Station, where you'll start a breathtaking train journey towards the mountaineering base of Åndalsnes, a scenic town located in the Romsdalen glacial valley. Along the route, you'll pass some of Norway's most dramatic landscapes including a beautiful river (Rauma), steep mountains, waterfalls, and famous bridges. Upon arrival, it's time to lace up your walking boots and begin today's hike.  Afterward, a van takes you towards tonight's accommodation, where you'll get settled in and discuss the week's itinerary over a 3-course dinner.

Day 2: Hike the Troll Wall

Twist and turns at Trollstigen

After a healthy breakfast, you'll be picked up for a scenic drive up the famous switchback turns of Trollstigen—make sure to have your camera ready for some spectacular views! On the top of Trollstigen's high mountain plateau, you will start your hike towards the top of the Troll Wall. The terrain is hilly with a rocky trail that leads up the valley, but there's a gradual incline all the way to your destination. This is an intermediate hike, but the last part up to the top of the Troll Wall consists of scree fields, and you need to be comfortable hiking in rocky terrain. After the summit, it's time to trek back down and drive towards your home for the next two nights in Valldal.

Day 3: Kayak the Fjords

Kayaking on the beautiful Norddalsfjord
Kayaking on the beautiful Norddalsfjord

After breakfast, it's time to head outside and get into your kayaking gear. Set off for a few hours paddling on the beautiful Norddal fjord, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. After choosing the perfect spot for a break, you'll pull off the water to enjoy a memorable picnic lunch at the water's edge before paddling back to Valldal. The afternoon is free, but for those who want to explore some more, they can join the guide for a small afternoon hike. In the evening you'll enjoy a traditional dinner before turning in to rest your bodies for the days ahead.

Day 4: Explore Geirangerfjord & Hellesylt

The beautiful Geirangerfjord
The magnificent scenery of Geirangerfjord

Today you'll explore the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Geirangerfjord. After a hearty breakfast, jump in the van for a scenic drive towards Geiranger. Here you'll spend a few hours exploring the village center at the base of this incredible fjord before hiking to a beautiful waterfall after lunch. The hike is steep, and although it is less than a mile (1.5 km) to the waterfall, you can take your time and enjoy the view along the ascent.

After the hike, you'll travel by ferry to Hellesylt and drive to your next accommodation, the historic hotel of Union Øye.  A favorite venue for royalty, writers, climbers, and romantics for generations, a stay in its historic walls feels like being transported back in time. Get settled in and enjoy a three-course dinner in the evening.

Day 5: Hike to Slogen & Patchellhytta

Spectacular views from Slogen Mountain

After breakfast at Hotel Union Øye, you'll start today with a short drive to the foot of Slogen, the highest point of your trip. This 5,131-foot (1,564 m) mountain is a favorite among the visitors of Hjørundfjord. The hike sets off towards the Norwegian Trekking Association's cabin, Patchellhytta, which serves as your cozy and remote accommodation for the night.

If the weather looks favorable, you'll be able to make your way up to the top of Slogen the very same day. With its pyramid-shaped summit, the mountain is a magnificent sight, and there is a fantastic view from the top across large swathes of Sunnmøre. The trek from Patchellhytta to the summit and back again takes about 3-4 hours depending on the weather conditions.

Day 6: Swing over the Fjords in Trandal

The world's most friendly swing!

After leaving the mountain and returning to the fjords, you'll hop on the ferry to the car-less village of Trandal, accessible only by hiking or boat. Take a ride on its spectacular swing that soars over the water, and makes for a truly breathtaking photo-op. In the evening you can rest tired legs and enjoy dinner by the fjord in the friendly local accommodations.
