Anders Westlund

I've been working in the travel and hospitality industry almost my whole life. Born in Bodø, and growing up both in the north of Norway as well as living most of my life in the south, I have come to love all that Norway has to offer. i love to travel and discover new places, and new cultures.

How did you get involved in travel?

"I've always had an interest in traveling since I was a kid. I got into the hospitality industry at a young age and ended up going to a Swiss Hotel Management school to get my degree in hospitality/tourism. After that I've worked in hotels both in Norway as well as abroad. After getting my advanced diver certificate and private pilot license, I have found new ways to discover new places cultures, and people."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Me and my wife driving around Italy one summer. We had no plans for what or where we wanted to go, we just drove around, and when we didn't want to travel anymore, we found a campsite and spent 1-2 nights before driving to new places. Ended up with one of our most fun vacations."

Hotel Reviews
Radisson Blu Royal Hotel
Bergen

Stayed only one night. Staff are friendly. The elevators did not work properly the day we were there and appeared to be undergoing maintenance, probably not a big deal. However, worth noting is the elevator does not go down to the parking garage so bags needed to be brought in through the 1st floor lobby. Hotel room was clean and comfortable. What we really like about this hotel was its location. Bergen is a beautiful city and we were in walking distance of restaurants, shops, fun stores, and the harbor. We were also close to a funicular train that takes you up a hill for great views of the city.

Authenticity & Character
I think you could learn to love this hotel just based on its location.
Location
Great location with lots to do and see. Bergen is a completely charming city, and like all of Norway, everyone was quite friendly.

Walaker Hotel
Solvorn

Walaker is deep in history and tradition. My family had the pleasure to meet the owner and he took us on a brief tour of the original hotel building. We loved its beautiful location, but unfortunately could not stay long enough to see the historic church that is a ferry ride away. We also experienced a wonderful four-course dinner and the room was relatively secluded and private.

Authenticity & Character
You can feel the history!
Location
Nestled down a hill on the shores of Lustrafjord. Charming community with lots of history. Hiking nearby.
Staff
Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

Hotell Utsikten
Geiranger

It gets 4 stars primarily due to location, but other wise I was not real impressed with the hotel. Again we stayed only one night. No elevators and only one e-car charger was working.

Authenticity & Character
This is an older hotel and it exudes a charm all its own.
Location
Proximity to views of Geiranger.
Staff
Everyone was friendly and helpful.
Cleanliness & Comfort
The bathrooms were small but adequate.
Quality Hotel Ålesund
Ålesund

We only stayed one night and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. Staff could have been a little more proactive by informing kimkim (or me) in advance that on the day of departure a marathon was being held which would shut down several roads in the city, including the road the hotel is on. Making our way to the airport was a mini-adventure.

Authenticity & Character
Location and layout of the common areas (reception, dining room, sitting rooms, etc.) contributed to the charm of the hotel.
Location
Enjoyed the location on the bay and found it was well positioned within a fun part of the city, close to restaurants and shopping. Would like to point out that in very close walking distance to the hotel there was a Chinese restaurant called HK. My family thought it was the best Chinese restaurant we ever ate in. The food was fresh, excellently prepared and tasted wonderful. This is saying a lot because we have dined in countless Chinese restaurants back home.

He is so easy to talk to and learn all aspects of Norwegian customs and traditions. It was a little disappointing that the Oslo Street food tour was cancelled. We were delighted with almost every aspect of the itinerary provided by Kimkim, including all of the hotel accommodations, the cruises, and transfers. In hindsight, we wished Kinkim could have provided more information on the public transportation bus and subway routes around Oslo as we had to rely on the more-expensive Uber services to get to the various scheduled activities. Also, in hindsight, we wish Kinkim offered a walking tour of Bergen as well. The weather was perfect: 40 - 50 degrees with sunny sky's. Otherwise, we were most pleased with our trip and look forward to working with your expert specialists the next time we travel.

I'm sorry to hear that the Oslo Street Food Tour was cancelled and that navigating public transportation proved a bit tricky. Your feedback is very helpful, and I'll certainly work on providing more detailed guidance for getting around cities like Oslo in future itineraries.

My trip was to Norway from the US. I was completely overwhelmed with work when I decided to try out Kim Kim as a worry free option to book my travel. When I received my itinerary and paid, I was still overwhelmed and basically just accepted all the pieces. It was not exactly what I had in mind when I mentioned I was pretty active and enjoyed outdoor activities and animals, but it was an intriguing itinerary so I went with it. As I got closer I realized some of the activities were impossible to get to due to flight timing. I was able to cancel one activity. I also looked up the rooms they booked me. Given how much I paid, I assumed I would be in great rooms. They were closets. I paid more to get some of them upgraded. As the days got closer I realized all the bookings were pretty standard activities that everyone does. So I started collecting the prices and the hotel room prices. I paid about twice what the cost of the activities and hotels would have been. And there was no "local flair" in anything.
I did enjoy the activities and the company was responsive as weather cancelled several activities and I was able to get some refunds. I realized 4 days in advance that no train was early enough to get me to the airport from my booked hotel and asked about canceling the room. I was told by the local company this should be fine and re-booked in a hotel closer to the airport, but when I asked about a refund I was advised that it was too short notice. So, there was some disconnect either within the local company or between them and Kimkim.
I would overall not recommend Kimkim unless you are okay with paying way above standard travel agent fees (typically 10-15%). The activities booked were all enjoyable, but I really could have booked it all myself and would not have had any trouble getting any of them even after I arrived.

In Tromso we were given the wrong meeting place on the printed schedule which made us miss a half a day of our vacation and got up extra early. That was really sloppy. I would like to be reimbursed for this expense since we lost a half day and had to be rescheduled to another company. (Not as good as the Alta experience.)
