It’s an easy day trip from Cartagena to the Rosario Islands. The archipelago lies about 62 miles (100 km) southwest of Cartagena. The Rosario Islands consist of over 20 small islands that are visited via boats or by day tours.

If you want to venture on and see more destinations than other tours, consider this 4-day itinerary to fully appreciate the islands. This tour includes a visit to the cobblestone streets of Cartagena, a Caribbean cuisine cooking class. You’ll also visit Playa Azul, a picturesque beach with soft white sands located on the Rosario Islands. You’ll also have the option to kayak around the stunning waters of the Caribbean coastline.

By Speedboat Ferry

Duration: 45 minutes

The only way to see the Rosario Islands is by boat from Cartagena. There are group and private day tours that depart in the morning and return in the early evening hours to Cartagena. The Rosario Islands are a short, but bumpy, 45-minute boat ride from Cartagena. If you want to arrange a boat, visit the Muelle de la Bodeguita port in Cartagena where most of the boats depart from.

By Private Boat Rental

Duration: 45 minutes or more

If you’ve got the cash, the license, and the know-how, consider renting your own private boat. This can be quite expensive but if you want to be your own captain and see the islands at your own pace this option is also available.
