How to Get from Popayán to Cali

The white city of Popayán and Cali are 86 miles (139 km) apart, and there are two good transit options available. 

The most convenient way to get to Cali is by arranging a private car to take you door to door. The three-hour ride through the mountains will be a breeze and you can stop for some amazing local food on the way.

Unfortunately, given that Popayán is a small town, it is impossible to rent a car there and drop it off in Cali. Some people might advise you to try to take a taxi, but since the cities are in different regions, no taxi driver will agree to do it. 

The other option is to take a bus. The four-hour journey is relatively short and comfortable.

If you are in Popayán during Holy Week, make sure that you secure your transportation weeks or months in advance. The city is one of the most important religious pilgrimage destinations in the country, so getting in and out during this festive week is almost impossible to do without some foresight.
