There are only 13 miles (21 km) between the beaches of Santa Marta and the coffee fields of Minca.

Taxis along the Caribbean don't have meters, so the best transit option is hiring a private driver for the 45-minute journey.

If you can't get enough of the Colombian coast, consider this seven-day tour through the Caribbean that takes you to Cartagena and its surrounding Rosario Islands, as well as the lush jungles and turquoise beaches of Tayrona National Park. You can also continue south from Minca on this three-day hiking trip to Cerro Kennedy

Duration: 45 minutes

Hiring a private car is the easiest way to get to Minca from Santa Marta. As sections of Route 90 are winding and require caution, you'll have a bit of extra time to take photos of the scenery. Consider seeking out a driver with a 4WD, especially during the rainy season when parts of the road can get muddy.
