Kimkim Trip Reviews for Germany

Caroline did an amazing job throwing this grip together last minute for me. I (in pure Steven-fashion) waited until the last minute to book for Oktoberfest. Literally - everything went off perfectly. Can't recommend Caroline enough!

Sara is the best! She was very patient with us and put together an unforgettable trip for us. We loved the food tours in each city and how seamless all the travel and lodging was.

We couldn't be happier with the service that Kim Kim and their team provided! Lucie made planning our trip very easy. From planning to arrival & departure, everything was great! We really appreciated the personal attention that Lucie, our travel organizer gave us! She listened carefully to our trip requests and made herself available whenever we asked to meet with face-time or a phone call! Lucie helped make our 50th anniversary dream trip a reality! All of our requests were honored from our hotels to excursions and beyond. The Kim Kim app was also very helpful as our trip itinerary was right at our fingertips and included maps and information about everywhere we traveled. We would not hesitate to recommend Kim Kim or to use them again ourselves in planning another trip!

Good pacing on the vacation. We were able to get a lot done in a short time without feeling rushed. Travel was easy and comfortable. Good communication throughout the planning process. Our trip advisor was able to give us last minute suggestions for activities in Frankfurt. Tours guides were each wonderful. Heike, our cologne tour guide, went out of her way to specialize the tour for our interests. Martin taught us so much and we're inviting to learn from. Justin was the perfect guide to the local scenery!

Berlin Introduction

Berlin

Very educational and friendly tour guide

Free Time in Cologne!

Cologne

Lucie booked us a hotel within walking range of the beautiful Rhine river, and amazing Cathedral. Having our free time to absorb the sights and history of the city at our own pace was highly appreciated.

Overall, we had very good guides while in Germany. Our tour guides for Dachau and Neuschwanstein Castle were both excellent, as was Marta our food guide while in Berlin.

While it was awesome getting to visit Allianz Arena, listening to an English audio tour while moving around with a tour group being led in German was less enjoyable. While the audio tour was informational, we were unable to interact with the overall tour group and tour guide, especially when she posed questions to the group.

Overall, as a family, we all really enjoyed our time in Munich, and in hindsight, wish we had stayed there an additional day.

All went well with the taxi service provided and the train tickets that were purchased. Getting a taxi (too few uber drivers available) from the Dresden train station was very difficult, and we ended up walking to out hotel, not a huge issue, more just a personal inconvenience as the handle on my luggage had broken. We had an issue with our Elba river cruise, resulting in us taking a much shorter cruise (1 hour) so I think we missed out on seeing and learning more about this city, making it the kids' least favorite city of our trip.

The pacing of our time in Berlin was much slower than the previous two cities, which I think the kids appreciated, as it gave them more down time to recover between activities. Our first walking tour was VERY long (scheduled for 3.5 hours). Kids made it for about 2.5 and luckily our tour guide shortened it at that point. Arriving on a Sunday, I wish we had known that the art market was only open during the weekend. We passed it in the distance on the walking tour but did not have a chance then to return and actually go through it.

We only went to the Berlin Story Museum while in Berlin (wish we had also done Checkpoint Charlie). The museum itself was very interesting and both kids seemed to really take in all of the information there without rushing through it.

All three hotels were located in easily accessible areas (walking in Munich, taking the various subways in Berlin) and provided good breakfast options. None had particularly effective AC systems, but that was more a complaint of my American teenage son. We lucked out with weather that was usually in the mid-60's by evening, so it was never so hot that we all felt the "need" for air conditioning.

Overall, both kids said their favorite days were the ones spent at Neuschwanstein Castle and in Potsdam exploring the town and the palace.

Private Essential Berlin Tour: Landmarks Highlights & History

Berlin

Be aware this is a LONG full walking. While our guide was great in shortening it towards the end (3 hour walking tour was too much upon arrival for my two teenagers), it is a lot of walking and standing. It did help that it was a private tour and we were able to do this. It did, however, give us a better idea of the layout of the central part of the city and gave us context for many of the buildings and architecture that we would not have gotten on our own.

Berlin Street Food Tour

Berlin

Sadly this experience was underwhelming. We were part of a VERY large group (14 people). Though we circled Victoria Market, we didn't visit any of the stalls, which was a disappointment. While I understand that one can only visit locations when they are open, we ended up having a large "snack" first, then dessert, then the after dinner drink, and then the sit down dinner, so everything was out of order. I appreciated the guides "want not, waste not" mentality. At each stop, he asked if everyone wanted their own serving (ex. a whole sandwich?) or if they wanted to share with a family member. This was great in that food was not unnecessarily wasted, but is also means that we paid for a tour for three people and never ate three people's worth of food (two sandwiches, two desserts, two drinks, one final meal).

We started planning our trip to Germany just 1.5 months before our departure, and having Elsa’s help was an absolute lifesaver! Yes, using a service like this means you pay a bit more, but it is a massive stress saver and totally worth the price. It saved us from the headache of researching and booking tickets across countless different merchants under time constraints—especially for highly sought-after attractions like the Neuschwanstein Castle.

From the very beginning, Elsa was great. She took the time to incorporate all of our feedback into a wonderful, truly customized itinerary just for us. She was also very patient answering my many questions and explained everything in detail. When our Rhine River cruise was canceled due to low water levels, she quickly came up with excellent alternative options and seamlessly pivoted our plans to a wonderful small group day trip to Heidelberg instead.

We also had great experiences with a few guides she booked for us. Manu, our river guide for the punt boat experience in Tübingen, was super fun and a pleasure to work with. Shpendi, our guide for the Neuschwanstein Castle, was incredible—he was highly knowledgeable and had great connections that made our visit perfectly smooth.

As a huge bonus, Elsa booked us into the Scandic Hotel in Frankfurt, which was beyond wonderful. It was so great that Scandic will now be our default hotel choice for any future destination that has one! If you want a stress-free, nicely curated trip to Germany, I highly recommend working with Elsa.

Considering the high quality of the room and the amenities, we felt the price was very reasonable. The breakfast was beyond amazing and became a highlight of our mornings. We absolutely loved every minute of our stay here. In fact, this experience was so incredible that Scandic will now be our default hotel choice for any future travels to destinations that have one. Navigating the transit from Frankfurt was a bit tricky. Our route required taking a regional replacement bus, but the instructions on how it worked and where to locate the stops were quite confusing. Unfortunately, we struggled to find the boarding area in time and ended up missing our planned bus, but thankfully, the next bus got us to our destination on time.

Sara,
The trip was wonderful. You did an excellent job finding the highlights for us. The hotels were well located and very comfortable. The only comment on the hotels was Berlin . While the location was great, it was not air condidtioned and the room was very small. All the other hotels were perfect.

The guides were knowledgeable and gave us a great overview of the places we visited. They took special requests and always worked with us. The only guide that we were not overly impressed with was the guide in Salzburg. While he was certainly knowledgeable, he walked was ahead of us and it was hard to connect with him. All the others receive 5 stars from us.

The restaurant suggestions were great. You gave us a large choice and we enjoyed them. We eat out quite a bit so this is something we are fairly picky about and we have no complaints. Only that we need to diet now as we seemed to stop at a gelato shop everyday.

Sara - you were responsive both during the planning and while we were traveling and that is so appreciated. We couldn't have asked for a better tour arranger.

Wanted to let you know that we added the suspension bridge in Todnot to our day in the Black Forest and I highly recommend that for others. What a view!

Thanks for helping us have a memorable vacation,

Lucie was incredible! From start to finish she listened, planned, reworked and was just amazing! She included everything we wanted, selected lovely places for us to stay, made sure the trip went smoothly with a rental car, and gave helpful tips to us. When we added or subtracted things mid- planning she didn’t hesitate! She reworked our itinerary so quickly! I cannot say enough about how kind funny and professional Lucie was. We are planning our next trip in 2027 and will be asking for Lucie specifically! Thank you so much for planning our One of a Kind Grimm Faery Tale Trail Adventure! It was magical!

Lucie made planning this trip so easy! She was very good at getting back to me promptly with a proposed trip and then was great to deal with when making modifications to it to create the perfect plan. She did a wonderful job organizing all the car, hotels, and excursions and made it very easy for us and had a lot of great suggestions. When we had an issue or two on the trip (eg one hotel wanted to charge me again for the room), she was very helpful and got them resolved. We had an amazing time and I'll definitely look to use Kimkim again!

We cannot say enough about the service Sara and KimKim provided in making a bucket list 2-week trip to Germany come true. Over several iterations and many location changes, Sara provided timely and helpful advice and a full range of options. Once we got our itinerary finalized, she was super prompt to assemble the details. We are very happy we upgraded our hotel selections from our original plan, thanks to her assistance. The trip planning was almost perfect, minus one challenge related to a car rental office not being open. (Not KimKim's fault!) This is our second trip with KimKim, and we are true believers. Amazing vacation and good communication with Lucie. We added a traveler last minute, which I can't believe Lucie was able to do for us! We had a couple of hiccups, but KimKim and Lucie were able to resolve via phone calls and chat. We enjoyed all she planned for us and it was a great balance of fun and downtime (which we needed!). Appreciated her recommendations as they were perfect.

Very well done - would definitely use KimKim and Sara and team again!

Our trip to Germany was wonderful and memorable.

Lucie did a phenomenal job listening to what was important to my wife and me. We wanted to visit several concerts, and Lucie was willing to go the extra mile for us. Each hotel was wonderful and provided a different glimpse of Germany.

However, the truly special part of our trip was the private tours we took at each stop. Each guide was wonderful. Our guide, Evan, in Hamburg was truly outstanding. He was very communicative with us and accommodated our delayed arrival due to troubles on DB.

Lucie was also accommodating, as I had a strong interest in practicing German with her before the trip and during the tour. She was very patient with me. I asked her to plan something special for our 32nd wedding anniversary, and she did not disappoint.

Germany

We had some difficulties with the ICE trains in Germany. During our short stay, we had two trains canceled and two delayed. We both had to stand (despite our first-class reserved tickets) on the train from Hamburg to Berlin. Additionally, I had to stand from Erfurt to Göttingen. We tried to use the help line, but the answer was to connect with the DB help desk. This was the only disappointing part of our trip. I really feel DB should give a discount.

Private transport was great. Hints in the travel document on how to use public transport to get to the hotels were helpful.

Please see my comment about the ICE trains. I doubt there is anything you can do about this.

Sara helped us plan a wonderful trip to Germany including stays in Cologne, Heidelberg and Munich. Every hotel was comfortable and conveniently located near the major attractions. The tours were informative, engaging, and a lot of fun. Sara took the time to understand our travel goals and created a personalized itinerary that exceeded our expectations. She was also readily available to help when we had some confusion with our train schedule, which gave us great peace of mind. We highly recommend KimKim to anyone looking for a well-organized personalized vacation experience.

Everything was very good, our tour guids were nice and transportation to the hotels and to the airport. One thing was a problem we might nedeed more assistance is rental car. From The Reformation to The Sound of Music

My sweet wife, Savannah, and I found our time in Germany and Austria to be truly memorable. Even with a few hiccups, such as canceled flights and lost luggage, the comfort and ease of KimKim's hotel and shuttle reservations helped us find stability throughout our trip. With all the hotel, attraction, and museum tickets, and even restaurant suggestions, we felt right at home navigating large cities like Berlin, Munich, and Vienna, as well as quaint towns like Wittenberg, Erfurt, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber. No matter where we were on our trip, we knew we could trust the local knowledge provided by our KimKim app.

Our visit to Wittenberg was a highlight, especially our tour with Mathias. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastically shared each story from Martin Luther's life. As a member of the local church — the very one where Luther preached during his time there — Mathias provided us with a private tour. It was clear he loves his town and is proud of its history.

We had wonderful meals, especially in Rothenburg and Salzburg. Lots and lots of great beer was consumed. One can never go wrong ordering a helles at the local beer hall.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 'Sound of Music' bike tour with guide Chloe. It gave us an up-close experience of Salzburg, revealing its beauty. After the tour, we both agreed that Salzburg is the most incredible place we've ever visited. It combines a charming small-town atmosphere with lots of activities.

We highly recommend this service and will definitely use KimKim for our next trip abroad.
