We had a terrific time in New Zealand recently and it was in large part to the arrangements that Vicky at KimKim made for us. She recommended and booked hotels in both Aukland and Queenstown; activities in both cities and worked with us to help us create the adventure we wanted in New Zealand. The hotels (Hotel Britomart in Aukland and Sofitel in Queenstown) were beautiful and catered to our every need. The staffs were attentive and engaging. Vicky planned a trip that allowed us time for curated activities but also time for us to explore and experience New Zealand. The Waiheke Island gourmet wine and food tour was everything we hoped it would be. We had a terrific time with guide Grant and small group of fellow travelers. The real surprise of the trip was how enjoyable the Milford Sound tour was. The views were amazing and Katy, the tour guide did a fantastic job explaining the region, the wildlife and the sights we saw. All around -- this New Zealand trip was an experience we will never forget. We are so grateful for Vicky's care and attention throughout the process. She even spent time with us just prior to travel to go over each day and last minute considerations and suggestions.

Phil was a great guide. We enjoyed the day with him. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the vineyard -- the views and ambiance as well as the amazing charcuterie platter that the winery prepared. The tastings were all good. The final tasting at Kinross with Brian was by far the best. Brian was skilled as well as knowledgable on the wine he was sharing.

Without a doubt, this was the best vacation of our lives. It all started with Kathrin interviewing us via email and a video call. She listened to what our interests are and put together an amazing agenda. We spent three weeks exploring the beauty of New Zealand. Kathrin took care of every detail, reservation, tickets, guides, equipment, etc. From our guided hike on the Routeburn Track with Angelo, an amazing bike ride with Marcello in the Redwood forests of Rotorura, a spectacular Alps to Ocean (A2O) bike ride from Lake Tekapo to Oamaru and many other activities, we were both challenged and catered to. Kathrin knew this was a retirement gift to ourselves and we were congratulated at our accommodations and were seated at the best tables in restaurants I think because of her. New Zealand has much to offer the traveler. Not just the beauty of the outdoors... the vendors who take you on outings such as Jake and Unique w/ Rotorua Canopy Tours or Alex with Waimarino, they are professionals as well as very friendly. We also were very thrilled to do the Te Pa Tu Maori Cultural Experience. The food and Maori people were exceptional. There is so much more to mention but suffice it to say that Kathrin at KimKim made this so easy with work she did and the plan she gave us in her TravelBook. We were never in doubt about where to go and what to do. Thank you, Kathrin!

Great location. Easy walk from the bus depot. This is the largest hotel room we have ever stayed in. It had two levels and a washer dryer. The staff were friendly. We did not eat on site, but there were a few lovely options. We did take advantage of the pool and fitness room. Those staff were also very friendly. I especially liked being able to watch the Australian Open in my room.

Reading your message truly filled me with happiness — thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was such a joy planning this journey with you both, and knowing that your retirement celebration turned into the trip of a lifetime means more to me than I can say.

From our very first email and video call, I could feel your excitement and your love for adventure, and it was a pleasure to craft an itinerary that matched your energy and curiosity. Hearing how much you enjoyed the Routeburn Track, the redwoods of Rotorua, the A2O ride, and all the incredible experiences along the way makes me smile. You embraced every moment so beautifully.

I’m also delighted that the wonderful guides and hosts you met made you feel welcomed and celebrated — New Zealand has a special way of connecting people, and it sounds like you felt that magic throughout your journey.

Thank you as well for your kind words about the planning and the TravelBook. My goal is always to make travel feel effortless and joyful, and I’m so glad you felt supported every step of the way.

Congratulations again on your retirement — what an inspiring way to mark such an important milestone. I’m truly grateful you trusted me with this chapter, and I’m thrilled it became everything you hoped for and more.

Wishing you many more adventures ahead, and memories that continue to brighten your days.

We greatly appreciated her partnership on telling us when we were trying to fit in too much during planning, leaving us with an itinerary that was the perfect balance of action-packed activities and free time to explore or relax at our leisure for every location. Before departure, she provided a thorough day-by-day itinerary and many resources to prepare us for New Zealand. On the trip itself, she was crucial to our trip remaining on track as we were there at a very rainy time. She took point on rearranging our itinerary when some of our events were cancelled for inclement weather. The restaurant recommendation list was also phenomenal - some of our best meals were at the restaurants they recommended.

We got to see so many filming locations as part of this tour. The guides made sure to calibrate their tour based on who was in attendance, so the super LOTR fan and the casual enjoyer (i.e., my husband and myself) could both appreciate and enjoy their time. They brought a flip book to show the scenes and how they were staged for the film, and Pure Glenorchy was also able to get us onto a privately owned location for the Hobbit and to get a better view of Isengaard. And of course the photo opportunity at the end was an awesome touch. It even included a break for afternoon tea in the park in Glenorchy!

Ash was an amazing tour guide for the Kai Bites tour. She took us around to her favorite spots, taking care to point out important history, art, and buildings around Christchurch, including spots that we would not have thought to check out or would have noticed on our own. Ash made sure to point out shops that features local artisans so we could bookmark them for our own time, and when we mentioned our dinner reservation plans, she helped pick out a menu of must haves (which were, to no surprise, amazing recommendations). She clearly has a love for her work and sharing great food with others, and it was such a delight to spend the time with her, which made this a top excursion on our trip.

This was the best part of the trip as someone looking forward to the diverse bird wildlife of New Zealand. The guides were so informed and clearly passionate about their work, so the audio tour component was very informative. We were able to see little spotted kiwis in the wild, a Ruru, and multiple tuatara. And it felt more intimate as a small group walking through Zealandia after dark with provided red flashlights to be able to search the brush for wildlife.

My husband and I travel regularly and typically book our own travel, but wanted a local expert to assist with our trip to New Zealand and Michelle was fantastic. We gave her travel dates and a general idea of the itinerary we wanted. After a zoom call to get acquainted, she came back with a itinerary that was based on our requests. We took some time to review and discuss, made a few changes, and the trip was booked. We did not have to spend hours online evaluating possibilities, or wonder if the selections would meet our expectations.
We enjoyed a variety of accommodations and experiences, all with a unique flavor of New Zealand, which was our goal. The weather created a need to change some of our plans and Michelle was easy to contact and available to recommend changes in the time frame we needed.
We prefer not to be tightly booked, and so had much time to explore on our our own in addition to the activities scheduled by KimKim.
The travel book provided was a step by step itinerary that was extremely helpful as we navigated different modes of transportation including rental cars. tour buses and ferries. It provided directions to pickup/meeting points so that we were easily on our way moving from one spot to another.

She truly listened to our interests, spectacular nature, unique experiences, and a thoughtful pace and designed an itinerary that showcased the best of the South Island’s beauty. Every detail felt intentional rather than generic, with a wonderful balance of adventure, culture, and relaxation.

One of the most unforgettable highlights was the overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound. Waking up surrounded by misty fjords, waterfalls, and complete silence was magical and remains one of the most memorable travel experiences we’ve ever had.

Throughout the trip, Monika was responsive, flexible, and genuinely invested in making everything seamless, even when plans shifted due to weather. Thanks to her expertise and care, we experienced New Zealand in a deeply personal and meaningful way.

The Skyline Gondola in Queenstown is a must-do activity! It provided a fantastic opportunity to get a panoramic view of the town and its breathtaking surroundings. It was a perfect, leisurely experience for our first day in Queenstown, especially since we were still feeling a bit jet-lagged from the flight. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

Visiting the Te Anau Glowworm Caves was a unique experience! While it wasn't a lengthy activity, it served as a delightful icebreaker, especially with such unique views. Although the cave tour itself isn't the centerpiece of Te Anau, it complements the region's beauty and outdoor offerings quite nicely.

Cycling through the Gibbston Valley wineries was a fun and exciting experience, though it had its challenging moments. The suspension bridge was a bit nerve-wracking due to its narrow width, but taking it slow and steady helped. We appreciated the E-bikes as the trails were quite steep in places. We visited three wineries and enjoyed each of them, particularly the relaxed and cozy atmosphere at Gibson Tavern with their delicious stone-baked oven pizzas. Overall, it was an enjoyable day amidst beautiful vineyards!

Milford Sound is a must see and flying over it is spectacular. I would recommend time in all of these places. We were only in Auckland 1 day b/c our plane landed there. The countryside in New Zealand is diverse and beautiful. Our outfitters and guides were universally excellent. We also visited the glow worm caves which is a unique and wonderful experience. You need to be able to kayak to do this. Wanaka winery tours gave us a wine tasting experience we will never forget. I would also recommend the Trans Pine train ride across country. Be aware if you want to hike Arthur's Pass the trailheads are between 10-12 kilometers away. We ended up hitching to get there and back. Our visit was 2 weeks and we spent time on both North and South Islands which I would recommend with their unique aspects.

The beauty of the land, the vast differences in experience from one place to the next, the cleanliness and consciousness in environment, and the kindness of the people everywhere is what really made this trip stand out. Our guides, as well as our drivers were fantastic! Highlights: Mulford Sound (beautiful waterfalls, seal and dolphin sightings), and a highly recommended plane ride over the mountains when returning to Queenstown. FYI, -The drive is long (winding roads that could impact a weak stomach), but well worth the trip. Also, Mt. Cook, the Tasman Glacier Cruise, the Glowworm Caves (near Rotorua), Wai-O Tapu’s geothermal activity/mud pool, and the very scenic TranzAlpine train ride from Christchurch to Arthur’s Pass, are all well worth seeing. If you like hiking, Arthur’s Pass has some great trails, but beware, the distance from the train station to any of the well known trails is quite a hike in itself (and not too scenic by the main road), so plan on getting a ride to the trail if possible.

Kudos to KimKim (and more specifically, Monika), for customizing this trip in a way that hit all of our specifications and needs. If NZ is on your bucket list, go for it while you can. You won’t be disappointed!

The Heli Hike on the Kepler Track was unfortunately canceled due to weather conditions. They informed us very close to pick-up time, but I appreciated the understanding and professionalism. They provided three alternative options, and I chose a different track which turned out to be a beautiful hike. It was a fulfilling and enjoyable day despite the initial disappointment.

The activities she suggested were absolutely on point—especially the jet boat experience, the glow worms, and the Māori cultural experience. These were things we probably wouldn’t have booked on our own, and they ended up being some of the highlights of our trip.

She handled all of our accommodation bookings. Overall, the hotels were great. While we had a minor issue with the elevator at the hotel in Taupō, our stays in Napier and the final hotel in Auckland were excellent choices and very comfortable.

We also appreciated that she suggested additional activities we could do on our own if we had the time and energy, provided helpful restaurant recommendations, and made sure we were well informed about immigration steps before traveling. When we needed medical advice while in New Zealand, she was quick to offer helpful guidance as well.

Overall, she was thoughtful, responsive, and incredibly helpful throughout the planning process. We felt well taken care of and would highly recommend her.

Stephen was an amazing guide with extensive knowledge of New Zealand’s flora and fauna. My husband and I weren’t sure what to expect going into the experience, but we ended up having a fantastic time. We learned about the silver fern, saw New Zealand possums (much cuter than the ones in the U.S.!), and even learned about the different types of torches (flashlights) used during night walks. We were able to get very close to the glow worms, and Stephen also pointed out many fascinating plants and creatures along the way, including the kawakawa tree, the mānuka tree, the wētā, and, of course, the iconic silver fern. To top it all off, at the end of the walk he treated us to hot cocoa and biscuits, which was a lovely and thoughtful touch and answered all of our questions. If you’re looking for an easy trek and have an interest in New Zealand nature, this is definitely the activity for you.
