What you'll do

Immerse yourself in the world of flamenco with a deep dive into the dance form's history and a performance at the Museo del Baile Flamenco in Seville. Start at the museum, where you can gain an understanding of Spain's UNESCO-listed dance by browsing three floors of art exhibits, performance spaces, and cultural artifacts. Admire elaborate dresses and instruments such as castanets, then watch videos depicting particular flamenco moves before heading upstairs to appreciate paintings, drawings, and sculptures by artists from around the world.

After visiting the museum, you'll see a live flamenco performance in the building's atmospheric courtyard. Renovated in 2004, the courtyard features hanging orange trees and has been fitted with high-quality lighting and sound equipment to enhance the experience. Witness stellar choreography from the Ballet Cristina Hoyos dance company on the tablao (dancefloor). Crisitina Hoyos is a renowned flamenco dancer, actor, and choreographer, having performed in operas, ballets, and most notably in the film version of "Carmen" in 1983.

During the show, look out for distinctive flamenco dance styles like the guajira, which originated in Cuba and involves graceful fan movements, as well as traditional Spanish moves such as hand gestures and emphatic use of props like shawls. You'll also witness a solemn soleá, a tragic taranto, and a sensual tango, each flamenco style telling its own story. Leave the Museo del Baile Flamenco energized and with a feeling of tener duende, a Spanish term for the heightened state of expression, emotion, and heart that only flamenco can create.
