What you'll do

Unearth the secrets of one of Spain's key food products with a guided visit to an olive oil hacienda and a walk through the picturesque town of Carmona. You'll be picked up from your accommodation in Seville for the 30-minute drive east to a rustic, family-owned olive oil farm with over 6,000 arbequina olive trees. Here, you'll be guided through the production process by the owner, from picking the olives to grinding them mechanically and extracting the oil.

Round up your time at the hacienda with a tasting session showcasing the diverse range of oils on offer. The owner will be on hand to explain the different oils they produce and how to recognize an authentic extra virgin olive oil, as well as detect its aromas and flavors. After the tasting, hop back in the car for a 15-minute drive to Carmona, which dates back to the Neolithic period and was heavily Romanised, becoming important enough to create its own coins.

In this charming town, you can sample the region's rich cuisine in a local tapas bar for lunch before wandering the winding streets and open plazas with your guide as you learn about the town's varied history. Follow your guide to the archaeological site, which was discovered less than 140 years ago. Here, you'll find tombs, the second-century BCE Nécropolis Romana de Carmona (Roman Necropolis of Carmona), and the Anfiteatro Romano de Carmona (Roman Amphitheater of Carmona), the location for public events, to hear about the town's Roman influence before returning to your accommodation in Seville.
