Home and Poetry, Athens
The Home and Poetry offers simple but spacious rooms and suites in one of the best locations in Athens.
Overview
The Home and Poetry Hotel is located almost exactly between the Acropolis and Hadrian’s Gate, which makes it a great choice for those who want to be within easy reach of Athens’ most recognizable ancient sites. This former Neo-Classical home includes 16 rooms and suites, as well as a rooftop breakfast area that faces the back side of the Acropolis. Couples, families, friends, and solo travelers looking for a central hotel in the heart of ancient Athens will find a decent option in the Home and Poetry.
Kimkim's Take

Pros
- The Home and Poetry is located right between the Acropolis and Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Zeus in a spot that can’t really be beat.
- The rooftop breakfast area offers a view to the back of the Acropolis and is a great place to relax with a cup of coffee and some homemade Greek food.
- The 1870s landmark building of the Hotel and Poetry has retained some of its original features, such as marble staircases and iron-wrought railings, which bring a nice historical touch to the space.
- The building of the Home and Poetry is a landmark, so certain large structural changes can’t be made. This means that there are the building’s original steps, which lead up to reception and the elevator. Several rooms also feature steps and multi-story layouts, so if you have any accessibility needs, be sure to confirm with reception that your room doesn’t have any steps. You can also arrange to use a different elevator from the ground floor to avoid the steps leading up to reception.
- While the rooftop does offer a clear view of the Acropolis, it actually faces the back of the rock, so it’s not possible to see the Parthenon, Erechtheion or other structures. However, the rooftop itself is a nice place to enjoy a coffee or breakfast.
Authenticity
As the name suggests, poetry is a running theme of the Home and Poetry hotel, as each room is named after a different influential Greek poet and includes some of their work hanging up in the rooms. Poetry is a significant aspect of Greek culture, so this is a nice way to orient guests in that context, as those who stay at the Home and Poetry can become more familiar with the works of these authors just by reading what’s on the walls or talking to the hotel management.Location
The Home and Poetry hotel is equidistant from the Acropolis and Hadrian’s Gate, as well as the Temple of Zeus. It’s a walker’s paradise, as you can be at the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, and Plaka in five minutes. Those looking to explore the Temple of Zeus can reach it in just three minutes. Syntagma Square and its metro are 10 minutes away by foot, while Monastiraki square and metro are about 12 minutes away.Rooms & Bathrooms
The Home and Poetry includes a mix of 16 rooms and suites, which vary in size and can sleep up to five in the larger family room options. Some rooms include partial Acropolis views, while the skylight loft is a great option for families, as it includes two queen beds and multiple skylights, which are fun for kids. Some of the deluxe suites include balconies for those who want to enjoy some people-watching and Athens-gazing outside.Like what you see?

This is a charming hotel with each room dedicated to a different Greek poet. The room was spotless and nicely decorated. We had a large corner room with lots of windows and a fireplace. A lovely breakfast is served on a rooftop with direct views of the Parthenon, with eggs made to order. The staff were welcoming and helpful. People with mobility issues would have a problem with access, as there is a flight of stairs to get into the hotel - there is a (tiny) elevator once you are in the...

Nice hotel within walking distance of most everything you'll want to see in Athens! The staff was nice but sometimes found them missing from the office when we needed something (like a new key card after we locked ourselves out :-/ Also the A/C did not seem to be working very well

We loved this hotel! It is centrally located in the Plaka District. Everything in central Athens is within easy walking distance. It is a remodeled residence and exhibits that charm. Every room is different and eclectic in its own way. Our room was not large but very comfortable and elegant. It served our needs perfectly. The rooftop restaurant provides the included breakfasts which were outstanding - from a buffet or a hot breakfast made-to-order (or both). And the view from the roof......
