Stylish Cycladic-style suites with views of the Temple of Apollo, private balconies, and homemade breakfast

Overview

Cyrano Suites is a small property with five suites set in a two-story building. The building is new, built in 2006 and renovated in 2017, but it fits in with the surroundings with its traditional Cycladic style with whitewashed stone walls and alcoves. You’ll find the property in the Grotta area of Naxos town, close to many of the key attractions and restaurants but far enough from the action so that it’s peaceful and quiet. Guests are also treated to stunning views of the Temple of Apollo. Amenities are a bit thin on the ground as there is no pool, spa, or gym, but the owner is friendly and attentive, and the property is also perfect for families (under 18s get to stay for free!). Some of the suites come with their own private hot tub.

Pros

  • The Cyrano Suites have incredible views of the Temple of Apollo from some of the rooms.
  • Some suites come with hot tubs.
  • The property is modern but still embodies the style of traditional Cycladic architecture.
  • Its location puts you close to the center and the sites but far enough to enjoy a peaceful and quiet stay.
  • Children under 18 get to stay for free.

Cons

  • There is not much on offer in terms of amenities.
  • There is no elevator on the property.

Authenticity

What sets Cyano Suites apart is its authenticity, as the hotel is deeply rooted in the island's culture and history. You'll wake up to breathtaking views of the Temple of Apollo from your room, which previous Kimkim travelers have highlighted as the most memorable aspect of their stay. Although it was built in 2006 and renovated in 2017, Cyrano Suites is built in a traditional whitewashed Cycladic style with stone walls and alcoves, so it blends in with its surroundings.

Location

Located just outside the center of Naxos Town, Cyano Suites offers a peaceful stay with easy access to the island's lively culture. The Portara, or Temple of Apollo, is just a 10-minute walk, as is the Venetian Castle overlooking the Chora. In the same amount of time, stroll the waterfront restaurants and shops of Naxos' port. Favorite beaches like Agia Anna and Plaka are 20-25 minutes away, while impressive sights like the fallen Faragi Kouros statue are 20 minutes away.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The hotel's five suites follow the traditional Cycladic style of whitewashed walls and simple design. All include balconies with clear views of the sea and Portara, which are perfect for watching the sunset. The Grand and Premium Suites come with an indoor hot tub, which is exposed and visible from the bed. All rooms have unique layouts, as the Grand and Junior Suites feature exposed bathtubs in the living room. If you need more space or are traveling with family, the Grand and Premium Suites include multiple sofa beds.

Amenities

Cyrano Suites' amenities are rather basic. There’s no pool, spa, gym, or parking, and no features for travelers with mobility needs (no elevator). Free WiFi is provided throughout the property, though.

Family-Friendliness

Children of all ages are welcome at the hotel, and those under 18 can even stay for free when using existing beds! Some of the larger suites are perfect for larger families, as they have multiple sofa beds. Baby cribs for infants under two can be provided for free when requested. There are no amenities for families with kids.

Other Highlights

You can enjoy Naxos' famous cuisine by trying the homemade breakfast of homemade pastries, pies, and dishes that are served at the hotel's sister property a few blocks away.

I wish I could add another star. The room was beautiful and perfectly located. There was nothing like watching the sunset from our room over Apollo’s gate and be within a five minute walk from all the restaurants and shops. The hotel has been in the same family for generations and they are always there to meet your every need. The owner’s wife and grandmother still make every Greek breakfast dish by hand which were all phenomenal. A must stay! Read more

Our room was gorgeous and unique. We took room photos to remember it always. The view was fabulous. The only problem was that we had to walk to a sister restaurant for breakfast. This hotel did not have a lobby. It was a collection of rooms in a building without a typical front and clearly marked signage. It was hard to find our way back because it is not on a main road with typical frontage. We entered and exited through patio doors to our suite. The manager had an office at the sister... Read more

We had to reach him by phone. These factors made us a bit uncomfortable because it so unusual. Knowing this now, I would not hestitate to return here. The suite was gorgeous— as was the view.

What a hidden gem. Hands down the nicest place I have ever stayed. Tips for future travelers

We had a terrific dinner at Sarris Fish Tavern and a fabulous dinner at dal Professore Mediterranean Cuisine. Try to visit both! Saint George Beach was gorgeous! 20 euro to sit on the beach under an umbrella. We ordered a fabulous lunch brought to us by friendly, kind waiters. Loved it!

We stayed at this wonderful hotel for about 11 days in September 2021. We had a suite on the ground floor that was very convenient for comings and goings. Although it looked out on the parking lot, the view beyond -- the Agean Sea and the Potara -- was stunning. It was particularly gorgeous in the morning and at sundown. Cyano Suites is a short walk (maybe 10 minutes) from central Naxos Town -- away from the commotion but still close at hand.

The suite was very modern and comfortable. The placement of the bathtub in the living room was a little "odd" (we used it only for cleaning our feet). The rest of the bathroom was behind the raised king bed (with a wonderful view out the front French doors) -- one half (the walk-in shower) on the left and the sink/toilet area on the right (we had to walk around the bed to get from one side to the other). A little funky, but we really liked it regardless. A really nice touch was the stocked refrigerator that was replenished every day (all gratis!). Highly recommended!

The included breakfast was provided at the sister Adriani Hotel a few blocks away. The morning walk to breakfast wasn't as convenient as it would be if breakfast were in the same building, but the morning stroll to and from was always a nice start to the day. The breakfast itself was always spectacular! For such a small clientele the choices were overwhelming and everything was always delicious. We wanted to try some of everything, but there were always too many choices. The hot breakfast pies (both sweet and savory) were the highlight, but the breakfast desserts were a close second. The pies (and, I believe, the desserts) were all prepared on site! And there was so much more (e.g., drinks, fruit, cold cuts, cheese, cereal)!

Our host (the gentleman behind the desk; sorry, I can't remember his name) was always so helpful and friendly and always anxious to serve us. After noticing that I had badly skinned my shin after climbing a rock on a catamaran sail he offered some much needed fatherly advice (I'm 68 years old and probably at least 20 years older than him) -- (paraphrasing) "We're not young anymore; we need to take care of ourselves." I needed that advice -- the fact that I was 68 and maybe shouldn't have been climbing on big rocks never crossed my mind at the time. I obviously remember his advice and won't soon, if ever, forget it. My new Dad. 😊

In its own way, the Cyano Suites was probably one of the most pleasant places we have ever stayed -- the room itself (funky or not), the view, and the included breakfast. All top notch.

Tips for future travelers

Consider an upstairs suite to possibly improve the view somewhat (albeit less convenient). If/when we return, we will choose a ground floor suite again. If you'd rather not walk a few blocks to and from breakfast, consider booking your room at the sister Adriani Hotel (where breakfast is served). The views from rooms at the Adriani Hotel may not be as spectacular as the Cyano Suites. Also, it is a short walk into town. If you want to be in the middle of the action, this is probably not the best choice, but I am sure it is quieter!

Authenticity & Character
Very modern and unique rooms. Stunning view. Wonderful breakfasts.
Location
For us, perfect. Quiet, but only a short walk into town. Others may prefer a location "inside" Naxos Town.
Staff
See my review above. Also, the kitchen staff was very friendly. The chef was often there so we could compliment her on her wonderful creations.
Cleanliness & Comfort
The room was alway immaculate. The comfortable bed. The generously stocked (and restocked) refrigerator.
