Hotel Bristol, Oslo
A historic hotel in the center of Oslo with renovated rooms and sophisticated dining.
Incredible breakfast! Rooms were small but comfortable and fit for purpose.
Beautiful hotel - elegant, luxurious yesteryear vibes in architecture and decor complimented by excellent service.

Overview
Kimkim's Take
- Enjoy a distinctly elegant hotel in the city center with a notable history, especially during WWII when German soldiers took control of the hotel and Oslo.
- The traditional albeit refreshed rooms—some with seated balconies—have antique-style furnishings, rich textiles, and modern amenities like Nespresso machines and L’Occitane bath products.
- The quality food and beverage program includes free breakfast, a steakhouse, and traditional afternoon tea, plus live piano music twice a day.
- Unlike some hotels in this luxury category, there is no pool or spa onsite.
- Some standard rooms have lackluster views, though there is a standard room type with seated balconies that is better (and slightly more expensive).
Authenticity
One of the oldest hotels in Oslo features Moorish-style architecture, original artwork, and high ceilings peppered with chandeliers. Bristol opened its doors in 1920 and it soon became a staple in the local jazz scene. Through the years there were important transformations and historical events from German soldiers checking in during WWII to fashion shows taking place in the 60s, to jazz performances that were attended by sitting US presidents including Bill Clinton. The hotel is still as popular as ever, thanks in part to a massive renovation in 2019, and the atmospheric restaurants and bars are particularly busy during the Christmas holidays. It’s a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike, and the well-trained staff provides memorable hospitality.Location
Hotel Bristol has a central corner location in Oslo, within walking distance of theaters, shopping, and cultural attractions, including Palace Park where members of the Norwegian monarchy reside. Travelers arriving from the airport can take the express train to Oslo Central Station and then walk to the hotel (about 10 minutes), or arrive by taxi to the front lobby where bellhops will assist with luggage. Public transportation is located steps from the hotel, providing quick access to the rest of the city, and onsite parking is available for a daily fee.Rooms & Bathrooms
There are 251 traditional rooms and suites at Hotel Bristol that have been renovated as of 2019. Though they have received upgrades, many original details, like crown moldings and antique-style furnishings, remain. Rooms come with different color schemes, and they may or may not have wallpaper, hardwood floors, and plush fabrics in gem tones, but all are equipped with luxury linens, extra pillows, and thick bathrobes. Other amenities include stocked mini bars, Nespresso machines, and bathrooms with L’Occitane products in eco-friendly dispensers. Most rooms have walk-in showers, while superior rooms have bathtubs. Some standard rooms have walk-out balconies that can seat two people at a slightly higher rate. Families can add cribs to the rooms for a fee, or book connecting rooms for more space.Other Highlights
An elegant breakfast buffet (included) is served daily in the main restaurant area, while an a la carte breakfast is available for a fee (and popular with locals). The spread features organic produce, handmade nut butter, and baked goods from the onsite bakery. Hotel Bristol's bars and restaurants are loaded with history, especially the Library Bar with live piano music every day, twice a day, which has been drawing listeners since the 1920s. There’s also a traditional afternoon tea service and a steakhouse with an English vibe.Sustainability
Hotel Bristol is part of the larger Norwegian Thon Hotel corporation and is a certified Eco-Lighthouse property, working to reduce food waste and save energy. The company has signed a deal with the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Development to cut food waste by 50% by 2030.Like what you see?
