Paradis Du Sahara, Merzouga

4.5 (20 reviews) · Comfort
Authentic desert experience featuring comfortable tents, unique dining, traditional Berber decor, stargazing, and more

Overview

Nestled in the Sahara Desert, Paradis Du Sahara provides a truly unforgettable experience. You'll stay in a desert oasis near attractions like the Erg Chebbi Dunes, the bustling market town of Rissani, and the charming village of Merzouga. Explore this unique landscape through various activities, including camel treks, dune buggy or 4WD excursions, desert trekking, and sand baths.

The tents at Paradis Du Sahara blend traditional Berber decor with modern comforts for a cozy and unique stay. Previous guests have commented about the extra-comfy beds, ensuite bathrooms (though simple), and the availability of hot water, heating, and air conditioning. The details in the tents, including woven animal hair materials for insulation and noise reduction, highlight the authentic Moroccan culture. Experience a serene atmosphere as you relax on private outdoor patios complete with Moroccan couches, or indulge in the luxury of the Royal Tent, featuring an intimate restaurant and pergola for outdoor dining.

Paradis Du Sahara's unique experiences set it apart from other desert camps. Enjoy Moroccan culture through traditional cooking classes or unwind with yoga lessons amid the enchanting desert landscape. For a truly unforgettable experience, partake in astronomy lessons under the unending night sky. Plus, you'll get friendly and knowledgeable staff, authentic character, and superb service.

Fabulous arrival on camel to the tented camp. Beautiful spot in the desert not near a lot of other places. There was minimal communication from staff so discovered meal timing on our own and stumbled on pickup the next day after we were wandering on our own as the other two couples had already left. Fabulous arrival on camel to the tented camp. Beautiful spot in the desert not near a lot of other places. There was minimal communication from staff so discovered meal timing on our own and stumbled on pickup the next day after we were wandering on our own as the other two couples had already left. We were advised by the person who booked that there would be entertainment but there wasn't. We could hear music from another camp nearby. But one of the highlights was the fellow who provided the astronomical information (the guiding of the north star). He was outstanding. Glad he approached us after our dinner. Breakfast and dinner were good. Key advice for future travellers - only take a knapsack with you for things you need overnight at the camp and leave your luggage at the hotel.

Authenticity & Character
Great to experience the desert. Would prefer to stay in the desert rather than the hotel. If you are short on time, skip the hotel and stay in the desert. One night in the tented camp is all you need for the experience of the Sahara.
Location
Glad to be distanced from most of the other camps.
Staff
Communication of information is needed as noted previously
Cleanliness & Comfort
When we arrived the toilet wasn't clean so we cleaned it ourselves and asked for kleenex/tissues as the box was empty. They provided it later for us after we advised them. The rooms were comfortable.

Like most of the trip, our experience at Paradis Du Sahara exceeded our expectations. We began with a camel ride to the camp. Riding camels for an hour at sunset in the Sahara was a surreal experience. It was so peaceful and our guide, Said, was kind and fun, always willing to take photos and share a story. Being around the fire at night playing drums, dancing, and sharing stories was a highlight of our trip. I can't wait to go back!

We were booked to stay here , but when were arrived we were transferred in a vehicle to another camp with cheap and basic accommodation after making us wait in the cold for 20 minutes. The rest of our group got the accommodation here while we who had booked earlier than the rest got to stay in a downgraded camp tent while paying the same high price for the luxury camp

Just check to make sure the heaters work well throughout the night. Water also stopped a few times for us. If there are time restrictions due to eco-conservation, it would be nice to know beforehand.
