There are a few different ways to travel the 130 miles (210 km) from Bergen to Stavanger. The quickest way to reach Stavanger is by plane, which takes less than an hour, and flights go multiple times a day. If you're looking to take a more scenic route, driving or hiring a private transfer is a great option that includes two scenic ferry rides. There is also a direct bus to Stavanger from Bergen.

By Plane

Duration: 40 minutes

Air travel, in this case, is the most convenient option. You'll be able to relax on this quick 40-minute plane ride from Bergen to Stavanger. In addition to saving time, you can find flights that aren't too expensive if you're flexible on departure times.

On a clear day, you can see views of various bodies of water, including the North Sea. You will also get views of the mountain peaks from above.

By Car or Private Transfer/Ferry

Duration: 4.5 hours

On this route to Stavanger from Bergen, you'll take not one but two ferries. The drive and ferry rides are very straightforward, as you follow the same highway the entire way.

The E39 will take you where you want to go after you merge onto it in Bergen. The best part of this drive is that you are constantly afforded views of the beautiful lakes and fjords in Norway, with mountain tableaus on the other side.

On the left-hand side, an hour outside of Stavanger, you will see the Førlandsfjorden, which extends for 7 miles. Closer to Stavanger, you will board the Mortavika-Arsvågen / E39 ferry, which will take you across the North Sea. Be sure to have your camera ready to take pictures of this beautiful water body. Finally, drive through the subsea tunnel Byfjordtunnelen, which runs underneath the Byfjorden

Keep in mind that this route does include toll roads, so ensure you know how to pay your tolls by checking with your rental company. If you'd rather, you can hire a private transfer, and you can focus on relaxing on the drive.

By Bus / Ferry

Duration: 5.5 hours

If you're not interested in driving yourself, you can always take the bus. The bus ride will include a few ferry rides as well, as it is a more direct way to reach Stavanger from Bergen.

Starting at the Bergen busstasjon, you'll take the same route you would if you were driving, and the bus will merge onto the E39. The bus will then wind through the beautiful mountainside with views of the bodies of water scattered throughout the country of Norway. 

Although you are taking the same route as if you were driving, it's about 60 minutes longer because you will have to make about 15 stops along the way.
