Blue Hotel Fagrilundur, Golden Circle

4.6 (7 reviews) · Standard
Modern family-run hotel with clean, basic rooms, self-service check-in, and outdoor hot tubs

Overview

Blue Hotel Fagrilundur is in the small village of Reykholt, one of the points that make up the Golden Circle. Not to be confused with the other historic Reykholt in the northwest, this village offers a few restaurants and grocery stores within two minutes walking. This modern family-run hotel is ideal for exploring sites along the Golden Circle. Geysir Hot Springs is a 15-minute drive, and the epic Gullfoss Waterfall is 25 minutes away. Reykjavík is an hour and 20 minutes away by car.

This self-service hotel offers 40 rooms that are accessible via electronic keycode. There are two room types, Double or Twin, and there are accessible options for those with those with limited mobility. The style is simple and modern, with monochrome colors and bathrooms of marble and concrete that have rainfall showers. Rooms look out over the surrounding landscape.

Relax in one of the outdoor hot tubs after a day of exploring Iceland's nature. There's a dining room and terrace to enjoy breakfast. While there's currently no on-site restaurant or bar, there's a restaurant right next door where you can get lunch or dinner.

Lack of staff onsite. Only saw staff when we checked in and maybe once during breakfast.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Was concerned that there was large wet spot between the bathroom door to entry room door when we arrived. Not sure if it was from spillage from mop bucket? Unable to address concern with staff, which were pretty much invisible throughout our two day stay. Had to lay a couple towels down to try to absorb the water

The hotel is right on the Golden Circle, which makes it a good stop. The check-in area has a sort of family feel, while the separate building with the rooms is more like a traditional hotel. Breakfast in the morning is a continental buffet as at most places, and it was good. They have hot tubs out back in the evening to relax in. Read more

Authenticity & Character
The layout of the hotel was different, the rooms were simple and nice. It was just a pleasant place.
Location
Right on the Golden Circle. Very convenient. There is a nice restaurant "Restaurant Mica" right next door. It was very good, with a varied menu. Note that this is the only restaurant in the area, so be prepared. They're open for lunch and dinner. There was a 1 hour wait for dinner when we dropped in unannounced. Not a problem for us, but it pushed bedtime back a little.
Staff
Very friendly, helpful and nice people. Everyone in Iceland is nice.
