Alda Hotel Reykjavík, Reykjavík

4.3 (6 reviews) · Comfort
Modern boutique hotel with clean rooms, a sauna and hot tub, a restaurant, and on-site barbers

Overview

Located in the quiet part of Laugavegur, Alda Hotel Reykjavík offers a simple and contemporary stay in the middle of the city's historic center. Stroll down Rainbow Street, Reykjavík's permanent homage to LGBTQ+ pride, which leads to Hallgrímskirkja, the tallest church in the country, five minutes away. The National Gallery of Iceland, perched on the pretty Tjörnin Lake, is a 15-minute walk, while the harbor and Sun Voyager sculpture are also 15 minutes away.

The hotel's 85+ rooms are modern, with black and gray tones that evoke the country's volcanic foundation. Families can check out Junior Suites, King Deluxe Rooms, or Double Deluxe Rooms, which all have sofa beds for extra guests. If you want to soak in the atmosphere of the city, check out the King Deluxe Room with a balcony, which offers a large outdoor space overlooking the sea. All bathrooms are sleek with white tiles and rainfall showers, although the King Suite also has a separate bathtub for those who want to relax more deeply.

Grab a bite in the hotel's cozy restaurant and bar, where you can also enjoy the delicious breakfast, or head to the hot tub and sauna to decompress after a day of adventuring. Other amenities include on-site barbers if you want to show your best look to the northern lights, a gym, and complimentary Android smartphones that you can take during the day to make local calls and more easily navigate the city. While the hotel doesn't have a parking lot, you can find paid public spots in the vicinity.

Tips for future travelers

Don't go there if you have a car! Otherwise, hotel is good.

Authenticity & Character
Hotel staff friendly, talkative, and helpful.
Location
Hotel is good. Location great. Could improve or make available PARKING. Many guests have cars!!
Staff
Hotel staff great. "Happy hour" staff terrible. Didn't know drinks. Came across as stupid and non-caring. Hostile, which was so unlike the normally friendly and helpful Icelander. The "hostess" should instead clean rooms. Job as a maid may be too difficult for such a person, but it may be only job she's qualified for.
Cleanliness & Comfort
"Happy hour." Overpriced crap. Poor service. So bad that hotel management should do something about it.
