Authenticity
Casa Cánovas is a stately historic home transformed into Cádiz's first boutique hotel. The look, curated by the Spanish interior design studio, LUZIO, and owner Ninfa Delfin, features a blend of historical and contemporary elements, including velvet furniture, checkerboard marble, and baroque-style headboards. The upscale hotel revolves around a traditional Andalusian inner courtyard, and tall-ceilinged rooms offer luxurious touches like Egyptian cotton sheets and Devon & Devon bathtubs. And for fun, a piece of local history is tied to the property; it was thought to have once been a brief refuge for a smuggler injured during the city's March 10, 1820, massacre. The man wore an emblem (designating him a smuggler): a picture of a top hat-wearing lynx, the hotel's logo.
Location
The boutique hotel is centrally located amid the cobblestone streets and pastel buildings of the ancient port city's Old Town, steps away from notable attractions, including Torre Tavira and squares Plaza de España and Plaza de Mina. The redbrick Neo-Mudéjar Gran Teatro Falla and the historic Cádiz Cathedral are both 8 minutes away on foot, while the port is 5, and the sandy La Caleta beach is 15. Despite being in a bustling area, the hotel maintains a peaceful atmosphere.
Rooms & Bathrooms
The hotel's 10 uniquely designed rooms reflect a distinctive personality. The decor is an elegant mix of historical and contemporary elements, featuring velvet furniture, checkerboard marble, antique brass lamps, chandeliers, and elaborate headboards against wallpapered accent walls. You'll find polished concrete and marble floors, tall ceilings (and windows), 300-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, Ortigia bath products and bathrobes, as well as Devon & Devon bathtubs in select rooms (like the grand Double Deluxe). Upgraded units provide additional space, and for an indulgent treat, book the Premium Double Room for a private furnished terrace that also includes a soaking tub.
Amenities
There's a shared rooftop terrace with wraparound city views, a next-door restaurant that's open for a la carte breakfast and Italian lunch, dinner, and dessert (closed between 1 pm and 6 pm that also includes an outdoor bistro seating area), and a moody lounge complete with plush seating and a fireplace. There's an accessible room on the ground floor and an elevator, though not all units on upper floors have lift access.Family-Friendliness
